Photos app freezes upon import / photo importing problems

To try to fix Photos app Reset and Repair Photos app at Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Photos app > Advanced Options. Your pictures will be safe in the User Pictures folder.

Wanted to contribute as gratitude, by providing some feedback for others that this (quoted above) fixed my issue with Importing media from my iPhone running IOS 13.3. Prior to applying this fix, Microsoft Photos would stall during the scanning phase, specifically after showing about 399 detected photos, then the animation would stop and the app would not respond to any UI interactions.

If resetting doesn't work, I would recommend folks here to try to change this one setting that fixed a different problem I had importing individual media (that is large in size) -- Go to the iPhone settings for your Photos app, and then scroll to the bottom section labeled "Transfer To Mac or PC". Switch this to "Keep Originals", and this should skip the process of checking the files for compatibility, which has fixed my issues with importing some large GB's sized video files.

well then, I'm sorry it wasn't of any help. It worked for the iphone 6s I have. Maybe it doesn't work with just cameras or other iphones? Btw,  have you tried disabling Autoplay? (https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-disable-autoplay-and-autorun-in-windows-10/). Hope this helps

This WORKED for me and my iphone 6s. Go to "This PC", RIGHT click on the iPhone icon and select "Import Pictures and Videos". If you have slowmo/timelapse videos it will give you an error for each video, just select to skip each same error and you should be good. I copied 4700 + something pictures and videos from almost 6000 files. I hope this helps

Not sure if my solution will work for Iphone users but it should work for Android and SD carda and cameras.

Rather than going into the photos app, after trying all of the potential foxes on this thread, I made sure my phome was set to transfer image files, and them opened my "My computer" , then under Devices and drivers right-click on whatever your phone is called (e.g Galaxy Note9) and select Import pictures and videos - from there you get a few options to import, I chose new images and it worked.

Hopefully this works for iphone as well!

Dont know why i have not done this before. Just go to explorer, apple iphone, internal storage and find the folder with the pics you want and drag them to your pics folder on pc.

also edit. Just found that if you browse files on the iphone. Double click one to view. In the top bar click import new and bingo selector boxes appear. 

Yeah! That worked for me as well and should work for everyone else, BUT my problem is that the videos were recorded in HEIC/HEVC format which is not supported by Adobe Premiere CC 2018. When I import through Microsoft photos it automatically does the conversion to make my videos compatible on Adobe Premiere, but if I drag and drop the videos directly from my phone the compatibility conversion doesn’t happen and therefore I cannot use the videos in Adobe Premiere. It’s really frustrating and sad.

Thank you though for giving a solution! For everyone reading this, this should work for you if your only desire is to put photos and videos on a computer and off your phone. If you need compatibility with a software, then it may not work depending on the type of software and version.
