Windows 10 audio stops working after installing Intel Smart Sound Technology driver (version 09.21.00.3755)

Earlier this week, Intel unintentionally released version 9.21.00.3755 of the Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST) Driver through Windows Update, and inadvertently offered it to a range of devices running Window 10 version 1803 or 1809. If your device contained
a compatible audio driver, the new driver overrode it and caused audio to stop working.

We are working with Intel to resolve this issue, and as soon as we learned of the issue on October 11, we made sure the driver was no longer being offered through Windows Update. If it was already installed on your device, you will need to uninstall the
driver using the following instructions.

From the Start menu, type Device Manager
in the search box. Well there are many cases which having the same issue, this is likely to be on Windows 10 1803 build 17134.345. If you are having this issue, please uninstall any drivers of the audio you are having on your system and download the latest driver update from the manufacture.

Hp have the Support Assistant to scan and check your driver effortlessly, I think you can try it out.

This worked for me on my HP Envy PC. At the very start I didn't find a Realtek driver under "Sound...….controllers" but I found an Intel driver with a yellow triangle under "other devices". From then on it was just like the instructions.

Usually you can find the Device manager, you can do this by open the Start Menu and type Device manager. It will be right there.

If there is no devices to be found, please go to View > View hidden Devices.

in case you are using HP devices, Please use the Support Assistant app to scan for missing drivers.

Although Intel Sound software/driver doesn't work, youre putting the cart infront of the horse...Intel specifically says that after the OS installation, youre 1st install is the MB Chipset software/driver...The Chipset controls Audio/Video/Networking/etc, & with a Win 10 installation/upgrade to newer version,it must be re-installed..Youre pc mfg will have it,& locate Storage Controller software/driver..
