Windows 10 audio stops working after installing Intel Smart Sound Technology driver (version 09.21.00.3755)

Earlier this week, Intel unintentionally released version 9.21.00.3755 of the Intel Smart Sound Technology (ISST) Driver through Windows Update, and inadvertently offered it to a range of devices running Window 10 version 1803 or 1809. If your device contained
a compatible audio driver, the new driver overrode it and caused audio to stop working.

We are working with Intel to resolve this issue, and as soon as we learned of the issue on October 11, we made sure the driver was no longer being offered through Windows Update. If it was already installed on your device, you will need to uninstall the
driver using the following instructions.

From the Start menu, type Device Manager
in the search box. I'm a local IT Consultant. Yesterday I had a client with an HP All in One Windows 10 desktop with this exact problem. Reinstalling the Realtek driver from the HP support web site fixed the problem for me... ut for how long.. who knows?

Aside from uninstalling the said driver. You can manually update it.

Right click Intel Smart Sound Technology driver> Choose update driver > Click "Browse..." > Let me pick from a list of drivers > Uncheck "Show compatible hardware" box > Click/Choose "Microsoft "as the Manufacturer > Choose/Select "High Definition Audio Controller" > Click Next > Follow the prompt.

After this, try playing a sound on your PC.

Nothing is working - Still the same. not sure how to roll back the driver as somebody stated

"PattyPorenta Hansen" uninstall your audio driver completely from 'Device Manager' (as described above) e.g. Realtek HD Audio or whatever your audio driver is, then reboot your computer, this should roll the driver back to a generic driver that works, test your audio, if it does not work, go to 'your comp manufacturers' support and select drivers, download the last audio driver that they have for your comp.
