"Installed" fonts not showing up in Windows Fonts folder

Here is a solution that worked for me. 

When I downloaded the font it had a little lock symbol on it - I had to change file ownership to personal and then reinstall. Now it works for me

Unfortunately, none of the previous answers solves my problem.

I try to install fonts. According to Windows that also works but I cannot see the installed fonts in the Windows Fonts folder and neither do they show up in Illustrator. 

When I copy a font file into the Windows Fonts folder it says "The "xxxxxx" font is already installed. Do you want to replace it?" - I click yes, but still - the font does not show.

It's not a problem of the font file as it was working previously. Same happens to hundreds of other fonts. Says they are installed but they don't show and they are not selectable in other applications.

This was happening to me, too. As a workaround, try copying the fonts directly into your InDesign fonts folder on your C drive, and they should show up. 

Program Files \ Adobe \ Adobe InDesign \ Fonts

! saw a post saying this issue was related to how Word depends on the printer driver to know how to render fonts.  Made no sense to me, but what do I know.  So, I uninstalled the printer and driver in device manager, rebooted, printer and driver automatically reinstalled and all fonts now work perfectly in MS Word.  Thanks Microsoft for your wonky software....

Try right clicking on the font and selecting the "install for all users" option, I work on an office computer where I am not the only user, so this was for some reason my issue, as I was having the exact same issue as you, maybe this is the solution? 

This solution worked for me after pounding my head against the wall with some of the aforementioned solutions. Just select the font(s) to be installed and right click. BTW, this worked for older postscript type 1 fonts.

Here's what worked for me on my computer. My font files were showing up as secure (note the little golden lock symbol on this Excel file). I right-clicked the files, selected File Ownership, and then selected *Personal.*Then I went to Cortana and wrote in the filepath C:\Windows\Fonts and copied the fonts into that folder. Lo and behold the system finally recognizes and displays the fonts. I hope this can work for some one else.
