"Installed" fonts not showing up in Windows Fonts folder

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, none of the previous answers solves my problem.

I try to install fonts. According to Windows that also works but I cannot see the installed fonts in the Windows Fonts folder and neither do they show up in Illustrator. 

When I copy a font file into the Windows Fonts folder it says "The "xxxxxx" font is already installed. Do you want to replace it?" - I click yes, but still - the font does not show.

It's not a problem of the font file as it was working previously. Same happens to hundreds of other fonts. Says they are installed but they don't show and they are not selectable in other applications.

    I got it sorted out just to have it gone after a few days.  However, I use mostly paint.net for minor imagary and it shows all the fonts and previews; these guys perhaps know what is cooking. I use Inkscape for vector design and it shows all the fonts but not the font preview. It is a pain in the back but as said, I use piant. net for the preview and then choose the correct font in Inkscape.

    Microsoft needs to have this fixed. The "work arounds" is not the default way of doing things.  And if a Microsoft person try to reply with a solution, make sure your solution works - do not waste our time...

    I started experiencing this problem today, right after I've just spent two days doing a completely clean and updated installation of W10 Pro on my machine. Today is my first day using the machine for work again, and I'm utterly bemused to have experienced such a ridiculous issue. Especially considering that MS have been aware of it for over 6 months and have chosen to completely ignore it.

    MS Admins; I work in a creative industry and being able to quickly install and activate fonts, without having to delve into the command prompt every time, isn't even REMOTELY optional for me. When are you going to sort this out?

    My workaround for 4 months: Create an outline of a font in illustrator on my MacBook, then copy the file to my windows machine. Luckily I don't need to do it that often, can't imagine all the designers who have this issue on a daily basis. Not surprising that they all switch to Macs.

    @Microsoft. If you really care about your customers, please put this issue on your bug list. I really hope that it doesn't take another 6 months for you to solve this.

    Yeah. I thought I was being really clever by switching from Mac to PC and saving a few quid. But this is just the latest in a long line of infuriatingly tedious bugs. As much as I loathe giving any money to Apple, I don't really see what choice I have if I don't want to have to keep pissing off my clients.

    I am surprised that no one mentioned this yet but the issue on my Windows 7 PC English language pack, seems to be related to the fact that all of the non-functioning fonts are for languages other than English, Latin or "not specified" Hopefully MS support will pick up on this and fix the bug.

    FWIW I did confirm on a second Win 10 machine that was having the same issue (not being able to delete fonts properly because they are 'in use') that uninstalling Skype worked for me (even if you don't use Skype). In my case I didn't even need to reboot.

    This works, but at least for me the dos prompt was backwards.  You want to be in the Windows font folder and copy to the new folders.  So cd\windows\fonts copy *.* c:\fonts worked for me.
