Hi Michael,

I believe that your IT department is right.

It is probable that the problem in v1803 is associated with the "Periodic Scanning"

button. Please see my posts in this thread for August 27 and 28.

I think there is a fault in v1803, that leaves only some PCs without a functioning

periodic scanning button.

In other threads, some have had this same problem, and their button was turned on.

Yet, when they uninstalled their third party anti-virus, there problem was corrected.

A functioning periodic scanning button allows Windows Defender to work in concert

with third party anti-virus programs.

EDIT:

I did not have this link in hand when I first replied to your post.

This link is my case in point.

Andrew had the same problem, that was originally expressed in this thread.

He had also been successfully running a third party security program, in concert with

Windows Defender, until W10 v1803 was installed. And his periodic scanning button

was turned "ON".

Pay particular attention to the second page of his thread.

Regards,  Glen

    Jumio,

If uninstalling your third party security program fixed your problem, it is possible

that reinstalling it will still leave it fixed. There must be hundreds, if not thousands,

who install third party programs every day. The only failure descriptions that I have

seen, involved programs that were already installed, when v1803 was installed.

If you have the means to re-install, and you still desire to have your third party

program, give it a try. If worse comes to worse, you can always uninstall it again.

    Regards,  Glen

    Hi Jumio,

I'm going to assume that you have tried everything feasible in this thread, already.

If your periodic scanning, at the bottom of the Virus & Threat Protection is set to

ON, then you should consider uninstalling your mcafee security program. The

button being set to on is proper. However, under some unknown circumstance,

after v1803, the periodic scanning button may not be doing its job.

If your situation with Mcafee, affords the option of reinstalling if you desire,

then you should uninstall it, to see if Windows Defender accepts your attempt

to use it.  To properly uninstall Mcafee, you use the option in the control panel

first, and then run Mcafee's removal program. (MCPR). You can obtain MCPR here:

    http://us.mcafee.com/apps/supporttools/mcpr/mcpr.asp

See the following thread, through to its resolution, then make your decision.
