Windows 10 - Freezing on startup after 5-10 minutes

basically I just moved to a new house and came into another issue with my computer. Before, the original issue was that my computer would freeze if I go idle from the keyboard and mouse after 8-10+ minutes. Weird thing about it is that it never happened whenver I was on the game “Fortnite” main menu screen. I couldnt get any real answers for my issue.

The day I move in, I setup my computer and it worked perfectly other than the idle freezing issue. Next day, I get on and reboot my pc becuase I couldnt leave it on due to the idle freezing if I was sleeping. But I get on for 5-10 minutes opening discord, spotify, and a game and it freezes on me. I reboot the Pc and it does it the second time.

Now I have an even worse issue. I don’t know how to fix it at all. And if I did find there issue, I wouldn’t know where to start.

If I load the pc in Safe Mode, it works perfectly fine. Doesn’t freeze after a couple of minutes and it doesn’t freeze if I go idle either.

I tried to factory reset my computer but by the time it reaches 40-50% it freezes and I can’t do anything to it basically.

Also, if you can help me and solve my issue. I’ll really appreciate it. The last post I did was with a guy helping but took him 1-2 days for a reply which I need fast and detailed replys.

He explained to me that certain things we will do but never said if I should be doing it in Normal Startup or Safe Mode.

Please help

Could be a bad driver using the driver finder that I'd never heard of. Did you get a second opinion from Slim Drivers?

Did you complete the checklist I gave earlier? Do not skip any steps as we often find that the skipped step was the fix.

If so then I'd do the Repair Upgrade by installing Media Creation Tool and choosing Upgrade this PC Now. This fixes most problems by reinstalling Windows over itself.

But there is a new version coming out within days so if you can wait you'll also have the latest version installed when doing this.

If you continue getting Blue Screen crashes then collect the crash file and post it back for analysis: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Go to the Asus Support Downloads web page here and put in the full model number: https://www.asus.com/support/Download-Center/

Compare the latest drivers available for your model to the presently install version in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Download and install any newer. Start with chipset (which will be components under System devices and SATA controller), then Display, then Sound, network, USB, all others.

The only issue I have with BIOS is I don’t know how to update it and people say I’ll brick my PC and I looked up my model and company and googled it and got no downloads for it either. Couldn’t find it. It was a ASUS and its year was 2013

Hi Gary. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

With a move we'd want to consider hardware issues, but since the problem disappears in Safe Mode then chances are it's a driver:

Update your drivers from the PC's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Then if necessary go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

If nothing else helps what I'd do at this point is wait a few days for Spring Creators Update to be released, install Media Creation Tool from this link and choose Upgrade This PC Now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

This is the most stable way to change to the newer version and because it reinstalls WIndows while keeping your files and programs in place, fixes most problems. It also brings all Windows Updates to date.

If there are any hurdles during install then these steps can overcome them: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

You can monitor the Windows 10 Blog here to get notified of the exact date for release of Spring Creators Version 1803 which is soon: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/#ut...

But remember that Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Consider now or later doing the Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also an automated Refresh that reinstalls WIndows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
