Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4103721 Version 1803

This update has some serious issues, specifically. Do NOT install this update after updating to Windows 10 version 1803. It will prevent your computer from booting up. I am stuck on the spinning circle for a long time. I have to use a Windows 10 USB to boot into the Troubleshooting and use Command Prompt to boot into safe mode. Please fix this update!

I discovered that if you installed a program from Iobit (like Driver Booster, for example) it creates a service called "LiveUpdate" with full name, as I remember, "LiveUpdateSvc".

Even if you remove the program the service will remain and this cause the KB4103721 update to fail to boot Windows after the update.

Uninstall all Iobit programs and remove the service from the administrator command prompt typing "sc delete LiveUpdateSvc" (check it is the correct service name) and then you will be updating Windows without any problem.

I experienced this issue on two computers and this has been the solution.

    I had this problem with 2 of my desktops.. restore and recovery could not work! I had to reset both the desktops and my laptop Asus has automatically downloaded the updates..but I dare not restart automatically as it might freeze my laptop too..tried manual restart but update still requires restart..

    I wasted so much time and resources because of this mess up by Microsoft..

    Bonjour à tous,

    • télécharger Windows Update MiniTool (WUM) et appliquer le Patch FR  (pour nous autres pauvres Français)
    • déconnectez votre PC du Net
    • redémarrez en mode sans échec
    • effacez totalement le dossier "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" (ou renommer le en SoftwareDistribution.old)
    • redémarrez Windows10 normalement mais toujours sans connexion au Net
    • lancez WUM et placez "Mise à jour automatique" sur la position Désactivée
    • redémarrez votre PC puis cette fois connectez le au NET
    • exécutez WUM (avec donc l'auto update désactivée) puis effectuez une recherche de MAJ en clicquant sur les flèches en rond
    • après de longues minutes KB4103721 va apparaître, cochez en face, puis choisissez "CACHER"

    N'effacez surtout plus le dossier "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" sinon la MAJ catastrophique reviendra bien vite au grand galop.

    Maintenant vous pouvez sélectionner vos MAJ comme avant  :-)

    this is a common, but luckily only cosmetic, problem introduced with 1803.

    Please try the following :

    • start a command prompt
    • enter "diskpart"
      • -> UAC will ask for administrative privileges
      • -> the command prompt will change to "diskpart"
    • enter "lis vol" (abbreviation for "list volumes")
      • -> you will see a list of your current (disk/optical/USB) volumes
      • -> look for the "volume number" of your "G:" drive (e.g. 6)
    • enter "sel vol" (abbreviation for "select volume") followed by above displayed "volume number" (e.g. "sel vol 6")
    • enter "lis vol"
      • -> your "G:" drive should now be marked with an asterisk
    • if this is the case, enter "remo letter=G" (abbreviation for "remove letter")
    • enter "lis vol"
      • -> the volume previously shown up as "G:" should not be associated with a driveletter any longer
    • enter "exit"

    This problem is not new because it has happened before  - lately with insiders build 17133.

    The solution I've seen recommended is to remove the additional drive letter(s) created:
