Microsoft license key/IP address scam

I just received a phone call on my cell phone, the caller ID was my own phone number. Was curious so I answered it, probably shouldn't have. I don't have a smart phone by the way. The robo voice said it was microsoft, that my windows license key was going to be deactivated because my IP address had been compromised from several different countries and they needed to set up a new IP address for me. I was then transferred to a person. Couldn't understand them so hung up. Is any of my information compromised, also concerned that the caller ID on my cell phone was my cell phone number?

    It most definitely is. And in all places on devices or on the web. I learned that Facebook is very intrusive using our IP addresses to find info about us, and cross referencing every bit of data we give them to pinpoint our exact location, address, or who we are even if we don't give any location or personal information. It happened to me when a friend and I tested it out for kicks. I made a dummy account with a different name, different zipcode from the other end of the country, no phone, no high school college or work info, a brand new gmail address created anonymously in the exact same way, not a single shred of personal info linking me to where I am or who I am. Within a day I was saturated by "someone you might know" recommendations for people who live on my street! How?? Definitely IP related. I deleted all facebook from my phone, and i haven't used my real account on there in almost 10 years. They lost my support as will any company intruding like that. But they were never reallly in the business of pleasing us to make money, they were and still are always working for the advertisers.

    I was getting numerous calls on my cell phone with my number on the caller id.  Yesterday, I deleted the Facebook Messenger app and have had no further calls so far.  This was not a newly added App, but I have heard that it is known for creating issues.

    Got the same phone call today to my wireless phone and it was showing coming from my wireless number!

    Yes, you are right about their inability to undo this. And the reason it works is fear, age (I am 77) and those that are too trusting. If they put their logo on these forums, and just said you folks are doing the right thing by ignoring this scam it would help. My thought was not for myself, but others who would not know better. I worked in the industry, actually know what my IP address is and know I should not give out the key number. Others, similar age only use for games and fun, so more likely too cooperate.

    This scammer called twice today.   They are still around.  Microsoft should put out a warning!
