After update of my windows 10 I got problem Desktop is unavailable

My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

Tried using the MediaCreationTool....

I did too, but it wouldn't run.

Same problem i also facing since yesterday...aftet undating, my system is not working where it is showing the same message as you... windows 10 is not good. Dont know what to do next, how to fix this problem, i had some important work and now, i couldn't able to do anything. Morethan 12 hours i already wasted in trying to solve and start my system. If you have any solution regarding this, kindly let me know. I will be highly appreciated.

*** ANY TIME THERE IS A MAJOR UPDATE YOU SHOULD PERFORM AN IN-PLACE UPGRADE RATHER THAN USE WINDOWS UPDATE ***
- Did this earlier this year for both my own units & also mom’s unit, just so I wouldn’t need to deal with this crap.
- How do I forget this stuff?
An in-place upgrade is fairly easy:
- Download the latest media creation tool from Microsoft and run it
- If you’ve already download this to USB/etc you can skip this
- Make sure to keep files/apps otherwise this will be a fresh install
During my latest upgrade on my old unit [again, the unit I hadn’t used for many months] I forgot to perform the in-place upgrade and instead used Windows Update = QUITE A MISTAKE!!! As I’ve spent many many hours trying to repair this issue.

After the screen showed my 98% for many hours I finally decided to forcefully restart the unit… whew… what a mess this caused.

Ended up with this dreaded: c /windows/system32/config/systemprofile/desktop is unavailable
- Desktop only shows Recycle Bin, Start Button, etc
  
  But nothing works at all
  
  No file explorer available, etc
- Physically removed all/any hardware (external USB stuff, printers, etc)
  
  *** ends up this most likely wasn’t necessary
- Tried many, many solutions/ideas – too many to list but here a few:
  
  Tried adding another user (admin)
  
  Tried the regedit solution
- Ctrl+Alt+Del is no help at all because the Task Manager is basically useless
- The “WINDOWS” key + R does provide much more because it allows access to the “RUN” box/window
  
  Cmd.exe + SHIFT + ENTER provides ADMIN
Tried using the MediaCreationTool many times for various operations before this:

So after many hours…… after so so many reboots…
- Opened up a CMD [ADMIN]
  
  My Windows 10/Media was in a major USB port (motherboard, not the front port or such)
  
  Even though I wasn’t able to access EXPLORER or such I was able to access my drives through CMD
  
  Ran through my drives searching for my USB drive [MEDIA CREATION USB]
  
  My Win10 USB was listed, so then ran SETUP.EXE
  
  And then the Windows 10 Upgrade finally was able to kick in
- After this it ran perfectly. It ran through the update/upgrade process, took a while (not long tell the truth, at least compared to the past 8 hours or such) and is running AOK.
Now not sure this unit is running AOK as I’m still checking it out for the moment, however at the same time I’m actually able to boot successfully and get to my DESKTOP. Yeah!!! So happy.

Thanks for the response, Daibak. Sadly it didn't work. I've ordered a new SSD hard drive as well as recovery from HP, since the drive is now totally hosed.

Winduhs is listed twice(!) in the boot list, by the way.

But remember, boys and girls, Salmonella said he wanted us to LOVE Winduhs.
