My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK
Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).
In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible
Access is denied. -OK
Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.
I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Open Windows File Explorer
On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'
C:\users\Default\
Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder
Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile
Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder
Restart (not shut sown) your PC
I posted the solution that worked for me below, but it's buried now with people that reinstalled windows and called it a solution.
Basically this is a failed patch install. The solution I found was to reinstall the newest Windows patch over the top, and it fixed everything and I was back to before the issue happened.
- Download latest Windows full patch, right now I believe 1803 or 1809, which will be a .ISO file.
2.Extract all files from the patch onto a thumb drive. All this must be done on another computer.
3.On defective computer, hit CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to bring up task manager. You may have to click "more options" to see menu.
4.Under File menu, top left, click "run new task", and "browse". This is the only way I was able to access my file system.
5.Find your thumb drive with extracted Windows patch, and run the Setup file. This will kick off the patch like normal.
After reboot you will be good to go. This has worked for 2 computers now for me, so I think it's the fix.
If this works for you, please give feedback so it doesn't get buried again. Waste to see so many struggle still.

I know this probably seems like a very simple thing to do, but I'm not really all that tech savvy.
I've been looking on the Microsoft Update Catalog but am seeing many different options (which again all seem to be .msu files).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I can only say the computer place you took it to wasnt very good. I had the same issue, and after a few hours of googling (yes, i refuse to say Binged), found the solution which worked (see my other post)
At least the company should have been able to save your data onto a USB stick, since the file structure can be seen
Secondly, if they had updated on top of your update, it fixes the problem, without any loss

I am so pissed off. I am having the same problem and I thought it was ironic that it happened two days before black friday (though I now see that it's been happening since May). I got annoying alerts yesterday about finishing configurations, even though I had just updated my computer a couple of weeks before. It switches between refusing to boot up and booting up with the same error as OP. I made a recovery disk a month or so ago and it doesn't even work for this? I opted out of making a recovery image or restore and now I feel screwed.
If this is a problem with the updates for Windows 10, do I need to reinstall with an installation disk now? I'm looking at the media creation tool option but I'm worried since I bought this refurbished with Windows 10 pre-installed I won't be able to download the right tool.
