My PC is working really normal before update. After I update my windows 10 the system show this message.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is unavailable. If the location is on this PC, make sure the device or drive is connected or the disc is inserted, and then try again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to the network or internet, and then try again. If the location still can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted. - OK

Then I click ok after that I only see recycle bin and task bar, which can not do anything background is black, so I restart by using ctrl+alt+delete and run safe mode(safe mode with network).

In safe mode it has no This PC it just has recycle bin and some program and I can't open any file location of any program after that I turn off my pc for 30 sec then open it the result is

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible

Access is denied. -OK

Only recycle bin and task bar and black background again.

I have no idea to fix this problem any more. Please I really need some help. THANK YOU. My English is not professional I hope you understand my message.

Hi Thirut,

Open Windows File Explorer

On the View Ribbon, check the box marked 'Hidden Items'

C:\users\Default\

Right click and copy the Desktop folder contained in the Default Folder

Navigate to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile

Right click and Paste the Desktop folder into the systemprofile folder

Restart (not shut sown) your PC

I can only say the computer place you took it to wasnt very good.  I had the same issue, and after a few hours of googling (yes, i refuse to say Binged), found the solution which worked  (see my other post)

At least the company should have been able to save your data onto a USB stick, since the file structure can be seen

Secondly, if they had updated on top of your update, it fixes the problem, without any loss

Im sorry to hear about your loss of data.

    Dear Microsoft

Following configuration this morning, which took more than one hour, I was unable to access my computer for work.  The problem was the same as being widely discussed here,

    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop".

As I am unable to work without my computer, I took it immediately to a computer repair shop and found that mine was the third taken into the shop this morning by anxious and irate customers with the identical problem.

I was informed that the configuration had completely corrupted the operating system in all three computers taken in so far today.  I have had a new operating system installed and have lost software that I must now re-purchase, not to mention hours lost to work and an entire day waiting for the repair.

Can you please advise me to whom I should forward the invoice for said repairs, software and lost hours?

    With many thanks.

    Janet

    Janet,

Seeing this has me in tears!  My laptop has been catching up on updates and we have so much that needs to grt out for BlackFriday and Giving Tuesday!

Unfortunately for many if us, the networking function is inoperable in addition to the desktop.  Says there’s a problem with network adapter drivers so we have to get update via USB drive.

In my case i dind't need another pc, beneath is how i solved this. I searched the internet for hours but couldn't find any solution, so had to find out for myself. Now after the update i did find this topic :-(.

But hope i can help you out with this.

Open command propmpt with "windows key + R" -> then type CMD

Go to the directory where you're internet browser is located, in my case: cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application

Open chrome.exe or whatever you're browser is

Google for "Windows update assistant" or go to:

    https://www.microsoft.com/nl-nl/software-download/windows10

Choose for the update option. Now you should update to 1809 or whatever update is available at the time.

It takes a while, cause it's a big update but after rebooting my problems were solved.
