Failure to install Windows 10 April Update(version 1803)

One of the computers that is giving me fits is a stock Gateway from about five years ago. The other is a custom rig that is under two years old. The upgrade troubleshooter shot nothing, and the upgrade assistant was of no assistance.

I, too, had Microsoft remotely control my machine and tell it to hide the update. That didn't seem to last, however. It started trying to install that update several weeks later.

I did find an option to freeze update installation for 35 days. I'll need to keep an eye on that.

Yep, my problem exactly. Commercial laptop, it worked fine. Custom desktop, would not install even though it tried every time I started the computer. Like I said, Microsoft forces updates that are not good for ALL platforms? There was nothing that was said was incompatible when I updated it to Windows 10. So why do updates now that won't work on computers already running Windows 10? The Microsoft solution? Remote control my desktop to change my computers settings to IGNORE that update. Just avoid the problem, don't fix it.

One of my computers seamlessly installs updates while another has continual problems. Makes me wonder sometimes why I ever left the world of Apple.

Only five times? Mine tried to update itself almost DAILY. It kept flashing that I needed to restart my computer almost DAILY! It took three techs from Microsoft three times trying to get the thing to work remotely, only for to NEVER work, and the fourth tech after they kicked my problem upstairs finally say it won't work on your computer. He had to do nasty stuff remotely to get my computer to totally ignore that update. Yes, it's hard to believe that Microsoft would push through an update that will not work on all computers and not make it an OPTIONAL update......with WARNINGS!

Thanks for that. It goes to prove that I was right to block 1803 with "Metered connection"  I'm now happily running on my old Windows 7 machine anyway. 

MICROSOFT:  I don't know why your forced this PC breaker of an update on unsuspecting users but the one thing you won't do is make me buy a new machine with fresh version of WIN 10 or whatever you roll out next !!!!

For the future LINUX MINT looks pretty good these days.
