TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

Hi Auggy,

Ok, if this is a 64-bit driver, why is it under system32? It may not matter, but it does not seem correct???  Anyway, I had already tried what you suggested but did it again just to be sure:

o    Yes, the device shows up under Disk Management as CD-ROM 0. It always shows No Media even when a optical disc, recordable or otherwise is inserted.

o    I had already updated the Intel RST and SATA driver to the latest available, but did it again to be sure. No difference.

o    I had previously tried removing the optical disc drive from the hardware configuration and restarting so Windows could discover the hardware and configure it. I did it again, as requested. No difference.

As previously indicated, this device was working fine until the Fall Creators Update of Windows 10 was forced on me and I cannot go back to the prior version because my C drive was corrupted during the installation attempt and I had to do a clean Windows install. Everything else appears to be working fine except for the optical disc drive and I would like to get it working again...

I am still open to suggestions.

It seems very unusual that the driver is so old? And, I was curious about it being a 32-bit driver?

That is normal and the driver is 64-bit for 64-bit Operating System.

Is the drive showing up in Disk Management?

Also, the proper functioning of the drive may be dependent on the SATA driver so try updating to the latest SATA driver from Intel:

As a general precaution create a System Restore Point prior to updating SATA drivers.

If the problem persists try uninstalling the drive via the Device Manager, restart the computer and let Windows re-detect the drive.

I was able to get the troublesome updates to install by downloading them and applying them as stand-alone updates instead of using Windows Update. My system is now completely current on updates and patches. The optical disc drive is still not working. I did notice the following information for the installed driver:

Current driver is:   C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys

Hi Janeane,

I did the following:

    o    uninstalled the optical disc drive in device manager

    o    went to Windows Update and checked for updates, the indicated

          update, KB4088776, was found and downloaded

    o    when Windows Update tried to install KB4088776, it failed with error 0x800f081f

Did I do something incorrectly or is there something else that I need to do?

We're sorry for the delayed response. For us to further troubleshoot this issue, we suggest that you uninstall and delete the driver package. After doing that, check for available updates. Microsoft had released the latest Windows Updates last March 13, 2018—KB4088776 (OS Build 16299.309). To manually download the update, you can get it through the Microsoft Update Catalog.
