TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

When the Windows 10 Fall Creators update tried to install it corrupted my boot drive so I had to download the image from Microsoft and do a clean install on my MSI laptop. After the clean install of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, everything seems to be working fine except for my optical disc drive. It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB with firmware level TM01 installed. It was working fine previously. The device shows up in Device Manager and everything says the device is working normally, has the latest correct driver, etc. When I put a disc in the drive, it will try starting up and then fall silent. I never see the optical disc drive on my windows desktop or in file manager. Any thoughts about what I can do to get this resolved?

    "(1) My registry for that looks exactly like yours, except it has "(default)" in the top line where you've got "Standard". But that is inconsequential. Also, mine is entirely in English. So, there is no bug there, but may be elsewhere I guess."

    the quote above helped me to come to the decision to get my "TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB" changed at Fujitsu repair service. With the new drive, same type but different model, everything works just perfect.

    Lesson learnt: With a desktop you always think of changing hardware elements as it is easy, with a laptop you hesitate because it nullifies the warranty. One should think of hardware flaws.

    Thank you for getting back to us. Since that we have found out that even in safe mode, the default DVD driver isn't working properly. For us to further isolate the issue, we would like to know the make and model of your Windows 10 device to check if it is compatible with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

    Hi Janeane, I really appreciate the help, but still no luck. Booting into safe mode and trying the DVD drive, I get the same results that I was getting in Windows after a normal boot. Here is my build number and version of Windows:

    Edition:     Windows 10 Home

    Version:    1709

    OS Build:  16299.248

    As an additional information, we would like to know the build number and version of Windows you have. We also suggest that you start your PC in safe mode and check if the issue persists. If the problem doesn't happen in safe mode, you'll know that the default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue.

    Hi,

    I tried all of the steps outlined in 'Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs' and it did not help. I can still see the DVD drive in Device Manager, but it does not show up anywhere else. The device worked fine until the latest Windows 10 (Fall Creators Update) was pushed to me. Unfortunately, I cannot go back to my previous version of Windows 10 because my C drive was corrupted during the Fall Creators Update initial installation attempt. This required that I do a clean install of Windows 10, which I did, and this seems to have everything EXCEPT the DVD drive working fine. Is there anything else we can try?
