TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

When the Windows 10 Fall Creators update tried to install it corrupted my boot drive so I had to download the image from Microsoft and do a clean install on my MSI laptop. After the clean install of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, everything seems to be working fine except for my optical disc drive. It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB with firmware level TM01 installed. It was working fine previously. The device shows up in Device Manager and everything says the device is working normally, has the latest correct driver, etc. When I put a disc in the drive, it will try starting up and then fall silent. I never see the optical disc drive on my windows desktop or in file manager. Any thoughts about what I can do to get this resolved?

    Yes, D:\ is my DVD/CD drive. But the upgrade to 1803 changed it to E:, & I changed it back.. I might also say, after the upgrade, things seem remarkably slower regarding the DVD. Even clicking for Properties could take minutes to happen. So I think I am not totally immune from 1803 evil doings regarding the DVD. After curing one disc with ChkDsk, it easily took 2 hours to scan it with Defender...

    And afterward ChkDsk fixed a new error on it which I can't recall. But my files had copied over to it fine. I only use this as a secondary backup of top secret files.

    Since that we have performed all the possible resolution and your operating system is already up to date, I recommend contacting your device manufacturer to troubleshoot this issue. The device driver might be outdated. This means that your device manufacturer might haven't released an updated driver that is compatible with Windows Fall Creators Update.

    Hi,

    Computer model: Fujitsu Lifebook A555/G  [Celsius Mobile / Lifebook/ Stylistic Series]

    Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-5200 CPU @2.20 GHz

    RAM: 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM

    Bios Version: 1.20 (10/06/2015) Secure Bios

    Drive configuration: SATA Drive

    Operating system: 64 Bit Window 10 Home edition, Version 1803

    Last update:19th May 2018, operating system build 171347, KB4103729 installed

    :-( German language is used by the system, therefore no snapshots !-)

    A few days ago, I checked that the TSST CDDVDW SU-208GB [cdrom.sys version 10.0.171347.1] was updated and checked that none of the lower / upper filter stuff was in the registry. Then I updated the drivers for IDE ATA/ATAPI Intel(R) 9 Series Family SATA AHCI controller [IaStorA.sys Version 14.8.0.1042]

    Now I have updated the following drivers using the device manager:

    Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-5200 CPU @2.20 GHz PCI.sys Version 10.1.1.38

    Fujitsu Bios driver: FBIOSDRV.sys Version 1.2.2.0

    Fujitsu device driver: fuij02e3.inf_amd64_463e65f2013f5119\fuij02e3.sys Version 4.0.2.5

    Checked the following, they are updated, last version:

    Microsoft Bios driver: mssbios.sys Version: 10.0.1734.1

    Microsoft ACPI and UEFI: acpi.sys and uefi.sys Version: 10.0.1734.1

    Microsoft controller for storage devices: spacedump.sys and spaceport.sys Version: 10.0.1734.1

    Then I successfully ran as admin: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth – but it did not solve the problem.

    The DVD drive is not recognized. It cannot be seen in windows explorer. DVDs do not mount. VLC media player remembers E:\ but cannot detect the DVD. The device manager however states that it is working, the DVD region 2 (Europe) is set and the hardware-ID is SCSSI\CdRomTSSTCDDVDW_SU209GB_FU01 – for this specific model I have not yet found another driver.

    My external Samsung DVD drive TSSTcorpCDDVDW SE-S084f USB Device is working without any problems, although it is governed by the same driver cdrom.sys version 10.0.1734.1.

    Hi Janeane,

    I have a MSI laptop. The model is GT726QD.

    The info I have found for my DVD drive is:

    DVD/CD-ROM drives

    device TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB TM01

    parent PCI\VEN\8086&DEV_A103&SUBSYS_11431462&REV_31\3&11583659&0&B8

    I sure hope we can find a DVD driver for my optical drive as it was a real pain to reload windows and all of my applications. I would REALLY prefer to avoid that if at all possible...

    Like I indicated, everything EXCEPT the optical disc drive is working fine.
