Can't use my keyboard and touchpad at the same time.

Okay, I know this is a fairly old topic but I have been searching everywhere and I can't find a solution to this. All the methods are outdated and I've been wanting to play games without the complication of not being able to look around while using WASD. 

If anyone can give some help on this it would be very appreciated, thank you.

PLEASE READ!!! This is what worked for me and I bet it will for many of you.

  1. Type in search bar "regedit" and hit enter
  2. after allowing the app to make changes to your device proceed with the following
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Synaptics > SynTP  and then click on TouchPad
  4. From there double-click "PalmDetectConfig"
  5. For "Value Data" enter 0 into either Hexadecimal or Decimal values and click "Okay"
  6. Restart computer and BAM!!! Everything will work as you have wanted for however long you've been trying to fix this issue for. 

This took me hours of my time trying to figure out on my own and literally hours sitting on customer support services listening to shi*** music. Please don't call technical support for questions like this because they have no clue how to help you. I was told to factory reset my computer which would've done nothing to resolve the issue and would have taken up more of my time recovering everything I just deleted (Applications, Saved passwords/usernames, Pictures/Videos, etc.). I understand why palm detection is on by default due to accidental touches on the trackpad if you aren't careful, but the fact that they don't let you turn it off in the settings is an absolute joke. 

Enough of my ranting. I hope this helps and saves you time!

There are several reasons why you are experiencing issues with using your keyboard and mouse at the same time while playing a game. It is possible that the touchpad or the mouse driver is not updated. To properly isolate your concern, please clarify the following information:

  • When was the last time that you were able to use your keyboard and your touchpad at the same time in a game?
  • Did the issue start after an update?
  • Have you tried to update touchpad driver?

If you are using a Synaptics Touchpad, you may follow the steps below to change the touchpad settings:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Control Panel in the search box.
  2. Click on Mouse and go to Device Settings tab.

Go to Settings. 3. Under the Synaptic Settings, go to Pointing, then select Sensitivity. 4. Select Palmcheck and set it to Minimum. 5. Test the game.

    For GOD'S sake, it's NOT Palmcheck. It's NEVER BEEN Palmcheck. This issue's been around since 2016, and nobody seems to have a solution that actually works.

    Hey so I think I found the problem

    1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Control Panel in the search box.
    2. Go to control panel and Go to Hardware and Sound
    3. Go to Touchpad
    4. Go all the way to the additional tap of the new window that opened up on touch pad settings
    5. Scroll all the way down to TP Rejections and disable it

    Thank you so much for the response, I just got my laptop on December 30th and ever since I turned it on this was an issue. It says there are no more updates available. And when I followed your steps I never saw a palmcheck option. So up to that point, I'm not sure what to do.
