Hello,
The new April 2018 update, that I started yesterday (5/20/2018), never completed and my windows does not boot. Here are some details:
- PC: ACER ASPIRE S7
- Start Menu -> Power Off -> Install Updates and Restart
- Got Stuck on:
Working on updates
9% complete
Don't turn off your computer
- Turned off the computer after waiting for about five hours.
- Stuck on “Restoring your previous version of Windows (with the five dots rotating above it)”
- Turned off the computer after waiting for a few hours.
- Stuck in Boot loop (2 screens kept repeating, acer logo screen, then the "Restoring your previous version of Windows" screen, then automatic restart and …)
- I can access my files using a bootable USB, so my hard drive is working.
- Used a "Windows 10 installation media" USB, to access advanced boot menu.
- "Go back to the previous version" gives the message "We ran into a problem ..."
- Used “command prompt”, and ran: chkdsk c: /r /x
- After reboot, no more boot loop, but again stuck in "Restoring your previous version of Windows" for hours!
- Again used “command prompt” to run
chkdsk c: /f (successful)
bootrec /fixmbr (successful)
bootrec /fixboot (Access denied)
bootrec /rebuildbcd (No windows installation found)
bcdboot c:\windows /s c: (Not successful)
- After restart, again stuck in "Restoring your previous version of Windows" for hours!
I am giving up and will probably need to do a clean windows install. But, I am asking to see if there is anything else that I can do first. Also, does Microsoft somehow support its customers, when something like this happens
that is totally caused by a Microsoft update?
Thank you
