Windows 10 apps won't open fully on first try - have to close and reopen for them to work

Windows Apps such as the Windows Store, Calculator app, Skype app, and Mail app usually do not open fully on the first try. The app window will show up, but the functions are not available. I will only see the logo of the app in the center of the solid theme color.

However, if I close the window and reopen the app, it will work fine.

Does anyone know how to fix this so that an app will open normally the first time?

(I have attached a picture of the Calculator app to demonstrate the problem.)

oh alright! I was actually looking for a power profile which would help me make use of sleep mode as and when required automatically...but i'll be sure to give your solution a try...also, i ended up disabling hibernation and that seems to have fixed the problem for now.

do you ever get a blank screen when trying to wake your system from sleep? it takes me almost a minute to get my system to wake from sleep at times.

Also, what exactly is the clipboard issue you're facing with edge?

yeah i created a power settings called hot. i turned off all sleep type settings. i set it all to performance settings. just choosing the generic performance settings did not work for me.

side note. none of these solutions affected the clipboard issue between access and edge.

Thanks for the feedback. My first thought was that maybe an update reverted the settings to the power plans, or something in the system did something to undo the customisation.  However if the problem didnt seem as bad as before, then it could have been another issue.

It could have also been temporary and a fluke that the problem appeared fixed after creating a power plan a second time.  I am running the spring update as an insider and everything is still working fine.

I like to run the following maintenance steps each month.

    1. Open command prompt as administrator.

    TYPE: sfc /scannow

The above will scan and attempt to fix corrupt windows files.

    1. Defragment your hard drive.
    2. In command prompt as an administrator..

    TYPE: chkdsk /r.

A message will ask you if you want to run the operation on next startup, type 'y'.

This last step will take some time and will will not be able to use the PC in the process but will check and attempt to fix and repair bad sectors in the hard drive.

A combination of these things had my laptop running like a brand new machine with no problems since.

Let's keep updated on this issue.
