New Version of the Kinect (for Xbox One) Driver and the 3D Scan app

Hello users of Microsoft’s ‘3D Scan’ app!

We wanted to inform you that starting this weekend we will be launching a new version of our 3D Scan app (version 2.0.46.0) and people that have the app installed will see the update show up on their computers soon thereafter.

**IMPORTANT**

The new version of the app requires a new Kinect (for Xbox One) driver to work with your computer and will not be able to scan without it. Additionally the old version of the app will not scan with the new driver. (You can read more about the exciting new Kinect driver announcement here)

The new Kinect driver must also be installed manually. To install the new driver follow the steps below:

  1. In Cortana type ‘Device Manager’ and hit enter
  2. Find ‘Kinect sensor devices’ in the list
  3. Expand everything under ‘Kinect sensor devices’ (this should expose ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’)
  4. Right click on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ and select ‘Update driver’
  5. There should be a popup window that asks “How do you want to search for drivers?”
    1. Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software”
  6. Assuming all goes well, you should have just installed the new driver. Right clicking on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ again and selecting ‘Properties’ should show you that you have driver version ‘2.2.1610.17001’ or greater
  7. If all does not go well and you did not get the new updated driver with the version listed above, remember that the driver takes time to filter through our backend system and be visible to all locations around the globe. If this happens, please be patient and try the same steps listed above at a later time.

For any issues regarding installing the new Kinect driver please let us know by commenting below.

If you have any feedback for, or issues with, the new 3D Scan app please leave your comments in the Feedback hub (Category: ‘Hardware, Devices, and Drivers’, Subcategory: ‘3D Scan’)

Thanks!

That model is right, and I don't think the Win10 version being Danish is the reason. Also, there is no (Microsoft approved) place I know to download the driver directly.

And you tried all of these steps?: Unplug your Kinect. Open Device Manager, right-click (or tap and hold) the 'WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ driver, and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and re-plug in your Kinect. Windows should then attempt to reinstall the most recent driver.

    polymodular,

Last week, someone else on this thread helped me realize that I never put the specific Kinect that this driver is for. This driver is only for the Kinect for Xbox One, not the Kinect for Xbox 360. Which Kinect do you have? If you are trying to get the latest driver for the 360 it won't work.

Yep, that is the reason. This is only a driver update for the Xbox One Kinect.

Thanks for pointing out a glaring error on my forum post: no mention of which Kinect version. I've updated the original post to mention that it is for the Xbox One Kinect.

    Sorry for being misleading.

    Marco,

That is an interesting use case that I don't think we have considered thoroughly. We designed the app to make complete, or mostly complete, 3D scans. We didn't think that people would use it as a 3D, single frame, snapshot.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is much we can do for you right now. If the new version doesn't do it, it must be a product of the redesign in the code, but I don't think it worked in the last version because we expressly wanted it to.

However, if you rotate the Kinect or the object just a little (a couple of degrees to the left and right, you could probably get something similar to what you are wanting. The Kinect needs more data and that would get it more data. I'm not 100% sure it will work, but it is worth a shot.

Let me know how it goes.

In the new version of 3D Scan the resolution is internally set to full. We haven't exposed the setting to the user yet, but will consider adding it in the future.

    Thanks for your feedback!
