Many users of Windows Live Mail 2012 have received an email under this heading from the Outlook Team advising them of the changes that are taking place at Outlook.com as accounts are migrated to the same platform as that used by Office 365. Apart from advice to switch to using the built-in Mail apps on Windows 8.1 and 10, users are instructed to apply the patch KB3093594 . A few points to note: The change means that migrated accounts can no longer be synchronized using the old DeltaSync protocol. To synchronize these accounts, users can set up the account again to use IMAP . This will enable mail messages and folders to synchronize, but not the calendar and contacts. The patch enables support for Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) to be used instead of DeltaSync in Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 (see System requirements on the download page). Mail synchronization errors can often be cleared by removing the account, closing down the program and waiting a few minutes, then re-launching it and adding the account back again. We don't know what is going to happen with Windows Live Mail 2009 on XP and 2011 on Vista. It is clear that users will no longer be able to sign in with a migrated account to synchronize contacts and calendar, and they won't be able to synchronize mail messages and folders using DeltaSync. Whether the programs will continue to work in other respects (e.g. as a POP3, IMAP and NNTP client) remains to be seen. Apart from this question of synchronizing mail, calendars and contacts with a Microsoft Email account, there is no change now or in the foreseeable future for Windows Live Mail 2012. Mail accounts configured to use POP3 or IMAP will continue to work as before, the default calendar and contacts lists will still be available and the other functions - RSS feeds and newsgroups - continue as before. Because of the many problems that update KB3093594 caused for some users, it has been re-released, now at version 5.0 dated 23 December 2015. The revised KB includes this text under More information : Known issues about this update<ul> <li>Issue 1: After you install this update (that was released before December 17, 2015), you may find that the program crashes soon after start. Solution: Microsoft has identified the cause and has released a fix that addresses the issue for affected users on applicable platforms. I tested it on Windows 10 and it broke it. I knew the patch was for prevoius versions of Windows but I thought I would give it a shot and see if it worked on Windows 10 before I came to this post. Why are Windows 10 users bieng left in the lurch by Microsoft? Why don't Microsoft make a patch that is not Operating System specific?

Installing the KB alone would not work if mail server settings are still of the old SYNC way. I got the similar error initially. I fixed it by following this setup GUIDE . Try it out. Suggestion for MSFT: When you notify user to install that KB, make sure you tell them to refresh their server setup w/ the latest IMAP/SMTP settings as well. Many are still using the old SYNC mechanism unaware of their settings are outdated and no longer work w/ this KB.

So what is the status of those of us who run windows 10 and want to continue to use WLM 2012????? Are we going to have to stay signed out and give up the calendar? Are we going to have to run it in compatibility mode - note that fix didn't work for everyone. What about the To/From errors? Are these issues going to be addressed in a future up-date?

There are additional problems as well - like the To and From fields being reversed in some folders.

The cover letter does include W10. The letter and System Requirements notes are in conflict. Maybe W10 users need not do anything.

So what is the status of those of us who run windows 10 and want to continue to use WLM 2012?????

Are we going to have to stay signed out and give up the calendar?

Are we going to have to run it in compatibility mode - note that fix didn't work for everyone.

What about the To/From errors?

Are these issues going to be addressed in a future up-date?
