Does anybody know how to stop the Windows Compatability Telemetry (CompatTelRunner.exe) from starting? It causes extremely high disk usage which results in large performance issues.

I have to say that this seems to work. The program runs, and the notification pops up to inform when the process tries to run. It seems to be doing everything it claims.

Not an actual solution of course but considering the lack of support from Microsoft this is the best we can do.

I have to say this no longer works. After Windoze latest major Update, CompatTelrunner.exe runs as if processblocker weren't even there. :(

Appears to be working again. CompatTelrunner had been moved to the windows.old drectory tree, with the latest Windows upgrade; hence, processblocker got confuzzled about its path, apparently. Set it again, and now things get blocked again.

Did you check the CRC box, or whatever it was named?

I have that CRC box checked, yet; but it still runs as 'CompatTelrunner.exe', btw. But yeah, it runs again.

One way to block this process is to use a tiny utility called "Process Blocker". https://www.processblocker.com. After installation, run it.

    Name of application to block:

    Compattelrunner.exe

In case it is ever renamed, choose:

"Block other applications with identical CRC"

Now the process is blocked. As a bonus, there is a notification shown every time it tries to run. PWND.

I have to say that this seems to work. The program runs, and the notification pops up to inform when the process tries to run. It seems to be doing everything it claims.
