Tried this and here's the error message:
aom.exe - System Error
The code execution cannot proceed because rockalldll.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

I recently purchased a custom built pc packed with windows 8.1 which I upgraded to Windows 10.
I installed Age of Mythology yesterday and when I try to run the game nothing happens. I have tried all compatibility suggestions and I get the same result.
I also have this same problem with black and white 2.
I have a NVIDIA Geforce gtx 980 graphics card installed in my pc.
Can you provide any suggestions please.
Thank you.

i HAVE SAME PROBLEM. i PURSUED AN ANSWER AT MICROSOFT AND AFTER MUCH, MUCH EFFORT I WAS TOLD THAT THOSE GAMES (AGES OF EMPIRES 1 & 2 AND AGE OF MYTHOLOGY) COULD NOT BE PLAYED ON OS LATER THAN WINDOWS 7! i WAS AND STILL AM CRUSHED. AFTER ALL THE HYPE ABOUT VERSATILITY THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE STANDARD FROM WINDOWS 7 ON! A MICROSOFT GAME COULD NOT BE PLAYED ON A NEW HP LAPTOP WITH MICROSOFT OS! MICROSOFT JUST TELLS US WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR AT THAT MOMENT THEN PROCEEDS TO DO AS THEY PLEASE!
I have both the retail and the steam edition. The steam edition installed but immediately after launch says not responding. The retail starts to install, it hangs at preparing to install.
I am using Win8.1, but after getting an automatic Windows update, my AOM and AOE III suddenly stopped working. I called Microsoft and they referred me to the AOE website and told me to send an email and call the phone number listed there. But I've found online that the website is not maintained anymore. I did call and send the email, but never got a reply. I told Microsoft that AOM/AOE is created by Microsoft Studios, so why can't they give me an answer?! I also read the update I got was auto-downloaded on my computer even though I didn't ask for it (it's apparently linked to the pre-setup for Win 10 in case I want it (which I don't). Now, I don't know exactly which download it was, so I don't want to randomly uninstall downloads on my computer that might affect other functions. So basically, there's no help from Microsoft and now I can't play AOM/AOE on my computer anymore. The only way is to go back to my old laptop with Windows Vista...I think that would still work.
I don't know much about computers, and I read some instructions on how to possibly fix the problem. But I don't understand it...and it requires changing computer settings and programs, so I don't want to fiddle with that in case something goes wrong and wrecks my computer...
