Age of Mythology - Windows 10

I recently purchased a custom built pc packed with windows 8.1 which I upgraded to Windows 10.

I installed Age of Mythology yesterday and when I try to run the game nothing happens. I have tried all compatibility suggestions and I get the same result.

I also have this same problem with black and white 2.

I have a NVIDIA Geforce gtx 980 graphics card installed in my pc.

Can you provide any suggestions please.

    I know, right.  And the 2016 expansion should be backwards compatible to Windows 3.1.  It is totally reasonable to require a now non-existent studio to fund a trust to ensure that its games last a millennium.  it is no excuse that Ensemble closed in 2009.  Now to figure out how to get my copy of Ancient Art of War to work.  Can't find a place to insert my 5 1/4 disk.  Damn Windows 10!!!

    Value your time. Steam +30 bucks = HD AoE.  10+ more gets you new expansion.  If you wait till the Christmas sale or summer sale, all can be had for 75% off.  Seriously folks, spending the time it takes to dual boot and reverting from Win10 to save $30 bucks for AoE.  Mind boggling.  Need to unsubscribe from this thread.

    not everyone is computer-minded.  The situation is quit simple : it's a Microsoft game, and Microsoft changed the environment, so microsoft has to solve it. simple as that.  Take an example at Apple.

    After 2 months of screwing around trying to make everything work, I gave up on Win10, and went back to Win 8... 

    My FINAL solution, after 3 1/2 MORE months of try and fail, I got my Win8  machine (upgraded to 8.1) to accept a Win10 as a dual boot, AND using the original, legal license on both partitions.  Today, after several HAPPY months I could not tell you how I did it :(   But Kathy07's right, the security fixes have to be installed in the correct order or AOM breaks.

    But it was worth all the struggles.

    I then struggled to upgrade the HDD to a TB.  My go-to HDD clone software would not work for a dual-boot Win8/Win10 system.  After several failed attempts, using various clone tools, I found the ol' reliable Macrium Reflect succeeded where all others failed. 

    Now up to a 2TB drive, and all is still well - Win 8.1 with AOM (play 'most every day), plus Wind 10, just cause I feel I have to learn what e1 thinks made this OS "worth it." 

    hmmmm, I still can't figure that out, btw. ;)

    You can purchase a new AoM at Steam.  I did.  It's my experience that the Steam version, which works without the secdrv, (third party driver secdrv.sys (SecureDisk)) has more bugs:  It frequently closes mid-game for no apparent reason.  Microsoft did not include secdrv with Windows 10 because of hacking issues.  If you go back to Windows 8, AoM still might not work due to a security fix, but you can disable that fix using the DOS command prompt in administrator mode. Microsoft KB3086255 is the security fix.  They provided an 'undo' in article MS15-097.
