KB3038314 which was recently deployed by Windows update refuses to install.  This is a 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine running IE 11.  I've tried both the Windows Update web install method and downloading the update separately and both methods fail.  The update is part of MS15-032 released on April 14 (Patch Tuesday).  Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution?  After the update fails there is a failure code of 80092004 displayed and a message that says "Windows Update encountered an unknown error.  I have tried the Microsoft Fixit Tool and uninstalling IE 11 and reinstalling.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

    Yes even the standalone fails.

I got fed up with all the failed updates in my update history and since it was a fresh install, I reinstalled again. This time I had the stand alone IE11 installer already downloaded, so I tried to install it after a fresh install. Of course it requires SP1, so I installed that and then installed IE11 standalone. As you can see below, it was only the third update to see this computer, other than windows update updating itself. You don't see the IE11 update cause it was done outside of WU.

So now I have tons of failed attempts at installing KB3038314.

    Moving on to KB3021952.

So after using disk cleanup to clear windows update files, KB3021952 will successfully install repeatedly. If you cleanup the files. It will say install successful and not show the update until you run cleanup again, then it will reappear and install successfully again, and over and over again.

I hope this isn't the security risk they tried to patch, and can't get a handle on how to fix it, and that is why they are being quiet. J/K

Me too. I've noticed when they have the IE update (KB3038314) success, then on Installed Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3038314). Check back with another update IE (KB3038314) load only 11% reported failure

One thing that I'll add that I don't see anyone else noting is that the update fails during the download at 11% - all the time, for me.

Actually there a few posts about that.  But you are correct, it fails at 11% download. The direct download version will download ok, but will fail during the the install when it it gets to about 30% of the progress bar.

I'm not going to worry too much about this. I'm sure MS will get the hint that something is wrong and fix it.

Not sure what is going on with this. Have the same problem...but I checked the version of IE11 that was installed-Help>About Internet Explorer and saw that the number after the version updates was KB3038314. Sound like an error on Microsoft's part.....
