Windows update KB3004394 causes the following issues on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system:
All MMC functions (Event Viewer, etc.) now require Administrator action, although in an Administrator account.
Windows Defender service will not start
The Windows Defender Service Terminated with the following error
%%-2147023113
Removing it returns the system to normal.
Anyone else experience this?

You can try using bootable media (USB drive, DVD, etc.) to do a system restore before completely formatting them.
I had problems with this update as well... Even MSE stopped working properly, pauses on one file and never moves.
OT: Would that have been C:\Windows\System32\catroot2*dberr.txt* <=this file, by any chance?
Once ready, we will re-release the updates.
Why wasn't KB3004394 properly tested .... such that all of the problems reported in this thread (and other threads and forums) found and fixed BEFORE KB3004394 was released.
How could Microsoft possibly have missed these problems when testing the fix. Or perhaps Microsoft did not thoroughly test the fix? I guess it is less expensive to just let ones customers test fixes.
What steps will Microsoft take to insure that future patches are more thoroughly tested?
Hi,
Some customers are experiencing an issue with Knowledge Base 3004394 and we have expired the affected updates. We encourage Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 customers who are impacted, to uninstall the updates/KB3004394. Once ready, we will re-release the updates.
Thank you.
