Windows update KB3004394  causes the following issues on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate system:

All MMC functions (Event Viewer, etc.) now require Administrator action, although in an Administrator account.

Windows Defender service will not start

The Windows Defender Service Terminated with the following error

%%-2147023113

Removing it  returns the system to normal.

Anyone else experience this?

    I can confirm this. All virtualboxes I had (fresh installs of ubuntu server and desktop 14.04 and older ones of multiple different linux distros) stopped working after this update. When I uninstalled this specific update and rebooted, all was fine again.

    The error I got was (in case anyone cares or googles):

    The virtual Machine <name> not open a new session.

    The virtual machine <name> has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1(0x1). More details may be available in C:\Users\username\VirtualBox VMs&lt;name>\Logs\VBoxStartup.log.

    error code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)

    component: Machine

    Interface: IMachine {........}

    Don't know if it's a problem with VirtualBox not being prepared or with this update gone wrong, but judging from all the other problems here I fear the worst.

    Just in case anyone cares, or googles, my VirtualBox logging says:

    1fbc.1958: supR3HardenedScreenImage/LdrLoadDll: cached rc=Unknown Status -22900 (0xffffa68c) fImage=1 fProtect=0x0 fAccess=0x0 cHits=5 \Device\HarddiskVolume1\Windows\System32\crypt32.dll

    1fbc.1958: Error (rc=0):

    1fbc.1958: supR3HardenedMonitor_LdrLoadDll: returns rcNt=0xc0000190 'C:\Windows\system32\crypt32.dll'

    1fbc.1958: Fatal error:

    1574.1434: supR3HardNtChildWaitFor[1]: Quitting: ExitCode=0x1 (rcNtWait=0x0, rcNt1=0x0, rcNt2=0x103, rcNt3=0x103, 710 ms, the end);

    Fix: Go to your control panel, then to Programs and Features, then click "view installed updates"). Sort by name, then look for "Update for Microsoft Windows" or "Security Update for Microsoft Windows". Uninstall the 3004394 update, wait (can take some time), reboot and enjoy working Virtualboxes.

    Hoping for a fix soon; I don't like having to skip security updates but I can't have my virtualboxes not running.

    This update, like all major ones to my Pro Win7, means a day spent starting and shutting down my computer, running disc checks and just generally praying for it to "take". As of now, no such luck. Fortunately I can access the Internet via my MacBook, which never experiences this kind of thing with an update. But I prefer the Windows environment...
