Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it? Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?
KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it. If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.
There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so. I truly hope this is not true.
On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this. When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.
Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows. We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software. We own these systems. They are ours, not Microsoft's.
Windows Update has earned a huge trust. We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure. When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.
We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want. We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10. We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it. Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.
Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust. Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

Those who prey upon the elderly, the confused, or the distracted deserve to be brought to justice.

2015-11-04T20:45:29+00:00 I love it that XP is still # 2 nearly 2 years after "end of support". Goes to show that people will stay with what works when faced with the unknowns of change (for good reason apparently). I work for US Govt and we just got Win 7 to replace XP only in 2012. Usually that entails a 10 year support agreement to do that so at least for now we should have that in lace until 2020 at least. There could even be a market for an upstart company to take over to provide support and updates for older OS like Xp or Win 7 and keep it useable indefinitely. Then get msft out of the equation. Maybe if the market chose that over msft they'd finally get the message that we don't want what they are currently forcing (I mean "offering"). From what just happened with this it also send that another secret strategy by msft is to break your current working systems so that you have little choice but accept their " upgrades". I called them recently about a win 7 activation issue and was told " I've used my key too many times". Well who is at fault when faulty updates or patches are the cause that you are reinstalling the OS to begin with. Was additionally told they have "sold out of Windows 7 product keys" if you ask about trying to get another key it upgrade versions. What a load of bs.

Microsoft has announced that October 31, 2016 will be "End of Sales" date for Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8.1 ... this is the last date on which Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) can sell computers with Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8.1 pre-installed.
According to netmarketshare, the top 4 operating systems in market share are:
- Windows 7 55.71%
- Windows XP 11.68%
- Windows 8.1 10.68%
- Windows 10 7.94%
Even giving Windows 10 away free has not resulted in much of a market share (7.94%) for Windows 10 as compared to the versions of Windows that customers really do love (Windows 7, XP, and 8.1 combined market share of 78%).
After October 31, 2016, we will not be able to buy a PC with Windows 7 or 8.1 pre-installed .... and Microsoft thinks that will result in customers loving Windows 10!!!!
Why does Microsoft so desperately want us to love Windows 10? Perhaps it is because once Windows 10 is the only available version of Windows, Microsoft will announce that Windows 10 will become subscription only (i.e, customers will have to pay an annual fee in order to use Windows 10). That's only a guess on my part, but it seems to be the next step into making Windows a service.
An operating system that is subscription only? Yeah, I could see them doing that. However, I think that might blow up in their face. Then again, maybe not. I tried to explain to an 'older' friend what MS was doing and he simply couldn't believe a 'reputable company like Microsoft' would do that.
