KB3035583 Installing Windows 10 using Windows Update?

Would you please tell me how to prevent the installation of KB3035583 in my computer and if it is already installed, how to remove it?  Also, are there other updates that we need to be concerned about that enable this behaviour?

KB3035583 now appears as an Important update in Windows Update and is checked which means it will be automatically installed if the user does not uncheck it.  If automatic update is set, it will install without intervention.

There are credible articles that say that Microsoft either has installed or will install changes to my computer that will enable Microsoft to use it as an advertising platform and then install Windows 10 without first obtaining an informed decision to do so.  I truly hope this is not true.

On behalf of my clients and their 162 Windows "consumer" computers, I must tell you that we do not grant Microsoft or any other vendor the right to do this.  When other Windows players do this, we regard it as malware and take great care to remove it.

Microsoft got to where it is today by selling Windows.  We have spent decades learning how to use Windows and billions of dollars buying Windows computers and Windows software.  We own these systems.  They are ours, not Microsoft's.

Windows Update has earned a huge trust.  We trust Microsoft to use Windows Update to keep our computers safe and secure.  When Patch Tuesday comes along we install all the updates that Microsoft says are "important." We assume those to be either plugging a security leak or fixing a software error.

We all hope Windows 10 will be something we will want.  We will carefully review and consult trusted advisors before we install Windows 10.  We have seen Windows 8 and rejected it.  Windows 8 is a bad product we did not choose.  

Automatically installing Windows 10 on our computers would be a severe abuse of a well-earned trust.  Changing our computers to enable them to become advertising platforms is also an abuse.

    Wow. That is a deeply disturbing post. I have tried to install this update, but although my PC insists that it is already installed, the "get windows 10 app" reports that it is not installed on this computer. So even if I wanted Win. 10, it seems that I cannot have it. Another Microsoft shambles? Windows 8.1 must be the worst platform in living history, designed by someone totally detached from the ordinary PC user, focused only on touch screen and "developers"It is virtually un-useable in general browsing and communications.

    I guess the "click here to accept terms and conditions" now has very sinister connotations for every Microsoft user.

    Hi, my pc is trying to upgrade using windows update and is repeatedly failing with code 80200056.

    I then downloaded the usb version off your site. Upgrading this way says my product code for the win 8.1 running on the pc is invalid. The product was bought from Amazon as an upgrade from vista. Your microsoft engineer installed this 8.1 when first win 8 upgrades came out and there was all that hastle with driver incompatibility. It took him a week to sort it. My account is ******@live.com. There must be some record of the work done. How do I now solve tis problem?

    IMHO, W10 is just a new clone of W8. I will not buy W10 a will recommend our customers no to buy W10 either. This is my final decission due to latest Microsoft updates.

    Microsoft's coercion of its customers--its war on customers--is an extension of marketing by other means.

    I agree.

    Microsoft wants to add the cellphone and tablet markets to their (laptop/desktop) Operating System market. The spreadsheets presented to the board most likely all indicate that doing so will increase profits ... if only the customers would just fall in line.

    By creating a "one-size-fits-all" operating system (in order to add the cellphone and tablet markets), Microsoft does indeed sacrifice the needs of their current (laptop/desktop) customers .... who have already rejected Windows 8, and if Microsoft refuses to listen to its customers and has merely made Windows 10 a follow-on to Windows 8, then customers will likely reject Windows 10.

    The fact that Microsoft has designed Windows 10 with forced updates seems to imply that Microsoft is not listening.

    I sure can debate that decision.  I believe they are trying to out-Apple, Apple.  I believe they will fail miserably because they mis-read the nature of their market.  Their attempts to out iPad the iPad, should be proof positive of just how much they mis-read their market.  They see Apple making a fortune and want to match that.  They forget that Apple is fundamentally a hardware company and that is what their customers buy into.  Microsoft will always be a software company.
