compatability of Windows 10 with embroidery software, 4D Embroidery, in particular?

I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to Windows10.  The main use for this computer, is sewing/embroidery software, 4D Embroidery.  Is W 10 going to run that software satisfactorily?

When I get my new laptop computer with Windows 10 and I update my dongle and install 4D embroidery software will there be a problem with installing the 5D upgrade using the 4D dongle that was upgraded?

May i ask what embroidery machine you have?  I have the Pfaff 2144.  I've updated the Hasp dongle drivers from Pfaff.com & still won't work.  Error says can't communicate... check to see if machine turned on.   Which is obvious!!  Talked to my Pfaff dealer today & they said 4d extra & machine to be old.... Won't work with Windows 10.  So no go for me.  I'm devastated!

You might want to speak with your dealer again about updating your machine.  The 2144 can be upgraded to 2170 if the internal board is still available from Pfaff.  It's possible no one at your dealership has been around long enough to know that.  Also, if you have 4D you can obtain a communication CD from your dealer if they would contact Embroidery Support to order it.

Many dealers only want to sell new equipment rather than supporting older machines.

I had Windows 7 and 5D Embroidery from Husqvarna Viking.  When I updated yesterday to Windows 10, my dongle did not work.  I contacted Embroidery Software Support 615-280-3510 at Pfaff, and was given the following directions:

1.  Remove the dongle from your computer.

2.  Go to www.premierplusembroidery.com

3.  Check the "Downloads" link from the menu bar and click the "Premier+Software Downloads" link in the drop down list.

4.  Click the "Premier+Embroidery System Download Portal" link.

5.  Log into your account.

6.  On the Software Download page, scroll to find Premier+Dongle Drivers and click HASPUserSetup_7_41.exe. to save to computer.

7.  Right click on the HASPUserSetup_7_41.exe file you just downloaded and select Run as Administrator.

8.  After the installation is complete attach the dongle to the computer.  The dongle will install device drivers and light up.

This fix worked for me.  I can now use my 5D embroidery system.  I was told that even though I don't have the Premier Embroidery System, this was the way to get my dongle to work. 

I hope this helps those of you who couldn't get 4D, 5D, or 6D dongle to work in Windows 10.
