Windows Defender Error Code: 0x80073afc

Hi, I receive this error code when i try to open Windows Defender and it says: An error as occurred, in the program during initialization. If this problem continues, please contact your system administrator. Error code 0x80073afc. And in the Action Center it says that Windows Defender is turned off.

Please help!

    No I went to programs and uninstall.  It uninstalled no problem.  I have now done a command prompt with sfc scannow and looked at CBS logs and according to that I have missing and corrupt files so it looks like the only answer might be a a factory reset.  I don't think Avast is the problem to be honest.  Also gone into services and attempted to switch on defender from there.  Not sure how files were corrupted or missing, that is the big question.  Computer seems to work okay but would rather get to the bottom of it as can't download defender update apart from any other issues that might crop up.

    How did you uninstall Avast? Did you uninstall it from your Control Panel and then used their specific product removal tool (avastclear)?

    I've done exactly the same and I even uninstalled Avast after some wiseguy on here said that defender would then work.  I get error code x80007139f
