Directplay on Windows 10

I can`t install DirectPlay .

When I tried to play Game in windows 10 it asked to install DirectPlay feature. I`ve  clicked on 'install this feature' it went on searching for a few seconds & then showed an error 0x800FFFF. Every  time I try same happening....

    Is it safe to use Directplay?

    I want to play GTA San Andreas on Windows 10 and I need to enable Directplay to play it.

    Will it turn off any features of Windows 10 if I enable it?

    It won’t infect my laptop with virus or anything damaging to the system,right?

    FOUND IT!!!!!!

    Over on Ubisoft support, they offered a different approach to finding the switch. For anyone else looking, here is what worked for me:

    Activate DirectPlay

    1. Press the Windows key (between Ctrl and Alt) and the R key at the same time.
    2. In the Open box, type Control Panel and click OK.
    3. Then, select Programs.
    4. Finally, click on Turn Windows Features on or offand turn on the DirectPlay feature in this new window.

    For  Battlefield 1942 I simply pressed alt tab (since just have a dark screen) after that got 2 windows game and asking for install directplay .Used the troubleshooting installed direct play  and the game was running., I use Win10 pro. It took me some time before I figured it out. Properties are set to comp win 8. settings 8-bit 256 color and run as admin.You can change all this after you got the prg up and running. hope help somebody :)

    I definitely love windows 10 which is without a doubt faster than prior windows versions unless user's error prevents that. I just can't fathom why anyone would consider downgrading IMO to a restrictive and rather limited Apple OS.

    Anyhow although I personally prefer not to use deprecated components this Legacy Component, DirectPlay is rather easy to turn on. This feature can be easily turn on / off by going to Control Panel -> Turn Windows Features on or off -> Check or uncheck box. Just make sure you're not in the middle of a system update.

    Setting Windows XP compatibility worked for me on Windows 10 when trying to install DirectPlay on the launch of Earth 2150. Thanks for the tip!
