Hi everyone:

I'm Jon, a Program Manager with Microsoft who works on servicing Windows Media Center.  I want to share an update with you about the EPG issues some of you are experiencing.

Rovi is working with Microsoft directly on all Windows Media Center related issues.  Our official path of support for WMC issues is to log a feedback report within the Microsoft Connect site (https://connect.microsoft.com/site1145/Feedback).  Microsoft will triage the problems there, and report any lineup or data accuracy related issues to Rovi you.  Note that you will need to login to the Connect site and link your MS account with to it for the link above to work properly.  You can also go to http://connect.microsoft.com, sign in there, and navigate to the "Media Center Program Guide Data Feedback Home" site.

There are a few problems with the data conversion that are known issues. We are working to resolve these as quickly as possible.

  1. **The issue regarding OTA channels not surfacing to the WMC guide is believed to be resolved.**Please run through your WMC setup (if necessary) and confirm if you now have the missing channels along with their corresponding guide data. If you continue to have issues please open a ticket with Microsoft in the Connect application. Microsoft will work directly with Rovi on any further issues you might be having.
  2. Series recordings problems. We believe we have identified the problem and Microsoft and Rovi are working towards the best solution. At this time we don’t have an estimate on when this will be fixed.
  3. Cable card lineups not displaying the HD channels. Microsoft and Rovi are working on a long term solution. In the meantime a work around has been implemented for customers with Cablevision/Optimum lineups and you should expect to receive the HD channels within 24-48 hours from 7/23.

We will continue to provide updates on this thread as they occur.

    First of all, you're welcome.

How long does it take for Microsoft Connect to fix this kind of issue for Windows Media Center since there are so many reports? I think a lot of people are still having trouble with their Guide listing and other Windows Media Center related issue.

    Jon, please provide another update.

My install won't even switch over to acknowledging Rovi as an option.

    Jon,

The forums are swirling with desperate people with possible fixes that take a lot of time and might break things further.  Microsoft would vastly improve on its public relations image if it only added a few operating system specific trouble shooting steps that the end users could try.  First of all there is no distinction made for the different operating systems, vista 32, vista 64, windows 7, window 8.  Secondly microsoft has provided no information to allow the more technically conversant people help triage the problem.  It would help to know HOW microsoft actually consumes the guide data in WMC. It uses a program that normally outputs an xml file, but WMC does not seem to use it in the same way.  The usual xml file is not there. A diagram of how the process is supposed to work, and steps to determine what in the line of steps is broken would be helpful as well. We could then give your team that is fixing the problem more useful data than that allowed in the very confusing and limited "community" input form.  I thought that form was broken because it did not offer me any option that seemed to match my problem. The default empty drop down option had NO fields to fill in on the form.  It is a very badly designed and confusing mechanism for anyone to have to use for report problems. No wonder some of the comments I have seen say they can't report their issues because the reporting mechanism is broken.

    Jon,

No disrespect intended but what lawyer or media consultant provided you with that answer. With the hundreds if not thousands of people that have had to deal with this cluster *&^(* from Microsoft saying "As you may have guessed..." just does not cut it.

    1. How could this have happened in the first place?
    2. Is the reason Microsoft does not care is because WMC users are really not active paying customers of the product? It just happens to be a product you stuck in Windows and you take it as it is?
    3. How was this tested?

Simple questions that "As you may have guessed" Microsoft has yet to and will not answer.
