KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

    Hi,

    Have tried to update my Win 8.1/64 for the last 4-5 weeks. 

    1. I have tried automatic download a number of times and get the same error code others. I have followed the instructions above - and elsewhere in the thread - without any success.
    2. I have downloaded the 64 bit offline installers Windows8.1-KB2919355-x64.msu with clearcompressionflag.exe, KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018) and KB2919355 does not install.
    3. Run sfc /scannow

    Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

    Beginning verification phase of system scan.

    Verification 100% complete.

    Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    1. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

    The restore operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired.

    Any suggestions? 850+ users in the organization I work for are supposed to "upgrade" to Win 8.1 this year but this is a nightmare.

    That's exactly what I got when I followed these steps on my machine running Windows 8.1 pro on my home network. 

    Here's what worked:  I reinstalled Windows by inserting the

    installation disk while the machine was up and running, agreed to

    download updates, and selected retaining everything, including apps and

    settings.  I needed to enter my license key.

    It told me I had to uninstall my Brother MFC printer/scanner and

    reinstall it after reinstalling windows, so I agreed to uninstall the

    MFC device and software.

    When it was done installing Windows, I ran Windows update for ~45

    critical updates.  After a restart, there were 4 more critical updates

    that hadn't installed, including the dreaded KB2919355.  I selected

    them, and got the other 3 updates installed.

    I then ran the previously downloaded KB2919355.msu.  It asked for

    a restart, and miraculously, it made it to 100%.  I tried to run the

    other stand-alone updates I had downloaded, and they all reported that

    they were already installed on my machine.  Two more trips to Windows

    update, and now my machine is fully updated.
