KB2919355 (Windows 8.1 Update) Fails (800f0092 and 80073712) on Windows 8.1 Pro w Media Center

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center. It is a 64-bit edition.

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 Update from MSDN. Installed it on two machines with no problems.

Update is a series of 6 updates packed in a single zip file. Unzipped the files. Went to install the first recommended update (KB2919442). Dialog box indicated it was already installed.

Went to install the second update (KB2919355). It ran through the dialogs and said installation completed. It indicated that a reboot was necessary. Rebooted. It began to install the update after the reboot. Got about 60% of the way through, then said it couldn't complete. Error message 800F0092.

Had successfully installed on two other machines, one a VM and one a Samsung tablet. Only difference is this computer is 1) Media Center, and 2) was running WebRoot antimalware agent.

Uninstalled WebRoot.

Retried the install. Got about 98% through the dialog (green progress bar almost at 100%), went it stopped and the dialog said Update Failed.

Error message in the update history is now 80073712.

Please note that's 64bit only

To make that work on 32bit do:

Also note AMD does not mean this only works on AMD chipsets.  AMD invented the 64bit platform, so even if you are running 64bit intel, that amd64 notation is still valid.

    I have considered this,

    The main issue is that I only have the original Windows 8.0 Pro disk, I do not have a 8.1 iso.

    Am I right in thinking that a repair install with a 8.0 disk is going to cause issues/fail?

    Like Liz, I am still not working.  I am replying to hers because of all the people here, her symptoms match mine the closest... maybe there is some similarity?

    I have an ASUS Q501LA.  It came with Windows 8 x64 with Media Center on it.  Because I immediately disliked Windows 8, I have rarely used the laptop.  It has, however, been updated regularly.  I purchased a key to upgrade it to Windows 8 Pro, and then upgraded to 8.1 via the Store.

    DISM /online /get-packages /format:table | findstr KB2919355 finds nothing.

    DISM /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd646.3.1.14 tells me that Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd646.3.1.14 is not a valid package.

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth tells me that the copmponent store is fixable.

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth tells me that the store is corrupted or the source could not be found.

    Like Liz, executing all these commands at some point told me that my system was last updated "never" but after a few reboots my update history did reappear.

    KB2919442 is installed.

    The Windows Update Troubleshooter tells me that recent updates were not installed and that it did not repair them.

    I can find instructions online to rebuild my component store with an installation CD but of course nobody ships those anymore.

    I have no VPN clients installed, nor am I missing a System Tools folder.

    I have no available restore points.

    I will not reinstall Windows.

    Does anyone know the address for Microsoft's accounting department?  I am going to start billing them my hourly rate for the time I am spending on this.

    I believe I have the exact same symptoms you two have.  Something with ASUS maybe?  3 month old X550L laptophere. quicken and about 10 apps from windows store, plus 8.1 and windows updates done to this - haven't moved files over yet from my xp box but was hoping to soon.  I am a novice compared to most of you guys and am stuck at the moment.  hoping for a fix soon, but not holding my breath....my IT guys at work are all avoiding 8 at home so far so can't ask any questions there...and I've not been this deep in dos commands since college.... so i'm done for now.  will keep checking in hoping for a solution...

    What if refresh my pc is not an option for me because this **** update mess all my system files and now I don't have the option to keep all my files and third party software. I don't want to install everything again, it's not my fault, it's Microsoft mistake. Now what? My only mistake is that I paid for this garbage SO and I swear i will not do the same mistake again. We do nothing but complain here one to another and to seek solutions to a problem we did not create. I do not see anywhere discussing about this serious problem. I don't know ... reddit, CNET, youtube ..you name it. It should be made ​​public so that future customers know what to expect from M$. It is outrageous lack of professionalism and indifference from Microsoft. Sry for my english.
