Photo Collage

When I purchased my new computer it came with Windows 8. I was pleasantly surprised when my photos popped up on the desktop in a collage manner, sort of like a screensaver. When I upgraded to 8.1, this feature has gone away. I miss it and would love to have it back.  If anyone knows how to accomplish this, please reply!! Thanks.  Connie York

No, I am not referring to Screensaver.  With Windows 8 on my new computer, it was a pleasant surprise that happened when I opened Photos.  There was an arrow that showed up at the bottom left of my screen, I believe it actually said "shuffle" and when I clicked it, my photos came up, covered the screen like a collage, different sizes, etc.  It was amazing.  Then, when I upgraded to 8.1, this option was no longer there.  I have done some research and seen this same situation from several others.  We did not do anything in Windows 8 to make this collage happen--it just happened, and it was great. Now it is gone.  Anything that can be done to bring this back would be appreciated.  I have started using the screensaver option since I lost the previous feature, but it is just not the same.  Thanks, Connie York

The feature you are referring to was not implemented in the new Windows 8.1 Photos app.  I have noted your request to bring this feature back and will bring it up with the product group.

    I agree.  This is a really nice feature. For ex. it's great when you have annual events. You can show fun pictures of the last event without having the focus on any one picture, which can at times put people on the spot.

    I discovered that if I installed Windows Live Essentials 2012, it includes the Photo Gallery app, and the collage option now appears in my screensaver settings. I haven't tried using the stand-alone Photo Gallery, but I imagine one can access the collage function there, as well.

    Given that this is a 2012 app, I'm a bit surprised that the MS tech people didn't suggest installing it. It works perfectly on my Dell Venue 8 Pro running 8.1 (32 bit).

    I would guess that from the frightening silence from anyone from Microsoft in respect of this that we won't be seeing it again.

    A real shame as it was a simple and entertaining function.

    New PC two days ago, with most recent version of 8.1 and the Collage Theme feature in the screensaver is still missing. Glad I still have it on my Windows 8 PC. Won't be going to 8.1 until this feature comes back.

    Also, would love to have control again over startup/shutdown sounds. That's another gripe I have with Win 8.

    I really really miss this feature. My young sons loved watching the photos change and seeing their family (who live overseas) appearing. Please bring it back!!!!!
