This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

    Try and follow the suggestions from the given article:

    Important : While performing refresh apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows  Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

    Wow! cool! i did not get 0x80070002 error anymore!!

    however, i get a new error code: 0x80073712

    no i'm not sarcastic (well maybe a little...) error message is changed. This means i'm fu**ed to doom, or it gets better?

    there is a light on the end of the tunnel... but it's the sun or infernal flames?

    I spoke with Microsoft again last night, they said to hold tight they are working on a fix and expect to have it released by the end of June or early July 2014.

    MINE IS FIXED!!!! Must've happened overnight.  I checked today and all the updates are complete and my computer reboots like it used to!

    THANX MICROSOFT!
