Nothing I tried corrected this problem. It went on for about a year now. While reading various posts I realized that the computer did this very shortly after purchasing it.
The issue may have been that when I lap linked my old computer and transferred data, files and programs to the new laptop, some older programs also transferred over. For some reason, the old "transferred" programs started preventing the completion of Window
updates. If you didn't transfer programs, perhaps one or two you downloaded and installed are causing it for some install ROOT KITS to monitor your computer activities and thereby, they prevent security updates for WINDOWS.
I finally broke down and "refreshed" (through RECOVERY) the computer which caused it to purge all the old programs and others that I downloaded along the past year.
Not to worry, the refresh function prints out a list of the purged programs for you to re-install but you need to do it from the CD directly as purchased.
Now the computer does full updates with no problems. So, the last two days it has been useless as it performed all the updates.
CAUTION:
Make sure to create a RECOVERY CD before doing anything, just in case.
Back up all your personal files, documents, photos, music etc.. onto an external hard drive because you may lose some of them.
Backup your .pst or any associated contact and old email files for your email programs, you will need them when you re-install the program.
Hope this helps someone?!
