"Your computer is low on memory" when its clearly not

This problem started when i upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1

When i run a game, for example, Arma3 randomly throughout my game i'll be thrown back to windows desktop and presented with a message saying "Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close these programs: 'Game name here'"

As you can see from the above screenshot i have 2.6gb in use and 5.3 free, so why does it think its out of memory?

I have set my pagefile from "system managed" to 16gb initial - 24gb max

This made no difference whatsoever..

My hardware has not changed, Like i said i noticed this almost instantly after upgrading to 8.1

Any help would be appreciated because as far as i'm aware theres no way to revert back to 8 from 8.1?

Thanks Adriaan - I have changed the registry setting and rebooting seems to help.

    I also had a problem with titanfall and read a post talking about the native resolution problem so changed it to the native resolution of my pc and it was fixed no more pop ups. sadly though when I start playing plants vs zombies garden warfare, the pop up keeps coming up. its running on 1920x1080 like my pc natively but the problem is still there somewhere. Its not a memory isssue since I have 12 gigs of ram.

    Here.s my fix. This comp is going back.

    N I will never buy another Microsoft product.

    especially now that I know for certain that they purposely sabotage their customers. Every time a new version comes out they release a required update for the old one that slows it down n creates new errors. I say I know for sure cuz it happened again when Xbox one came out. the new required updates for 360 made it take forever to boot up now.

    Same thing happened to XP when Vista came out and to Vista when & came out. That way u get annoyed with your old stuff and give in n buy the new versions.

    I was already using those settings n then I noticed right b4 the game booted me n msg poped up, the resolution changed itself to 1080p. Least thats what the tv display said.

    Also While I get the error in other games like Batman A.Origins, I dont get it in Res Evil 4 HD, but the game moves in slow mo. Setting the game to run under win7 compatibility sped it up a bit but not all the way.
