Update KB2862330 repeatedly fails to install on Windows 7.

The update IS needed otherwise you would not be offered it.
Obviously a lot of people are having problems with this update. In reading through the threads, it seems to me that the common element is that the update will not install. How it fails seems it have at least 3 variants (all on the restart phase in which it hangs): (1) on reboot it reverts back, (2) on reboot it fails to revert back requiring a system restore fix from a repair disc, and (3) it causes a BSOD.
Some people have suggested security software is causing this. I use AVIRA, ZoneAlarm, Spybot & Malwarebytes. It doesn’t make sense to me that this would be the problem as it is crashing on the restart before any of this is loaded. However, I suppose it is possible that the security is causing it to fail at the point of installation before shutdown. Although at least one person tried turning their security off before installation and still had the problem.
It was also suggested to download the update from MS rather than through Windows update and some people reported success in the form of “the update is not required” when downloading directly from MS. It seems strange to be that there would be any difference between the two downloads, but it does make sense that the problem is caused by the fact that the update is not needed even though obviously our computers via update thinks it is.
My solution, at the moment, is to assume it is not needed and hide it in update.
I tend to believe that the majority of people have not had this problem which makes me think that what is it about our machines that is causing this. My computer is otherwise fully updated and is regularly scanned for problems. Other than this, I’m not experiencing any other problems.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could actually get a comment from Microsoft about this!!!
