    Maggie

Have you successfully installed the other two updates?

The next time you get a problem of this type manually install one by one.

In the long run you can save a lot of wasted effort and time.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell 64 bit XPS machine. Microsoft Update last night (16/1/14) tried automatically to install three important updates and failed

Furthermore, the failure happens during configuration after restart...gets to 32% then gives up, removes the update, restarts and you are than in a repeating cycle unable to boot the machine. Safe Mode does exactly the same. After two hours, I eventually got out of the repeats by using Command Mode sign on and then system Restore. Then I spent another couple of happy hours trying the updates separately to finally identify KB28623330 as the culprit and then I had repeat the Reset palaver.

So now, having wasted half a day, I have a working computer. but I am missing a supposedly Important update and I have had to disable automatic updating for the foreseeable future, otherwise the problem patch will be continually re-loaded.

Having identified the number of the rogue patch I was then able to Google and find others have had this problem for a while. So hopefully, Microsoft will give this issue some priority..?

Yesterday's Patch Tuesday (1/14/14) I got the "revised" KB2862330 update. It was no different than the original. The same damn thing. It produced the same BSOD STOP 0X000000CA after restart that I got before...

It would appear that the OP of this thread (i.e., EJM888) never mentioned a STOP 0X000000CA error so maybe you should begin your own, new thread about your computer & problem?

Or perhaps you'd like to contact my colleague Susan for further assistance?

Hello PA Bear, you left out the rest of my words after you wrote "..."

    The rest of my words:

"...Had to do a disk image restore and again disable the USB driver that was causing it (hcmon.sys) and only then did it install successfully. And like before, the PC restarted two times."

I solved the problem, the exact problem I previously reported at the beginning of this thread (see my post on page 1, post 5) regarding KB2862330 and the STOP 0X000000CA BSOD after restart, and my solution on 10/14/2013 (see my post on page 9, post 8 for details).

No need begin my own, new thread or contact Ms. Susan for further assistance. I appreciate you trying to help me though.

This business with KB2862330 is still plaguing others.  The correct Answer that should be listed at the top of this thread is:

Disable your USB drivers before you apply this update. Then afterwards, re-enable them.

I installed it again -  stuck on 32% again.

I pity the folk who do not know how to recover from this. Probably paid $ to get it fixed and will have to again.

Really poor customer service from Microsoft doing it again!

    so it is susan@-msmvps? .com
