Hello.

I got an issue with my Lumia 930 that i bought today.

When i've got an incomming/outgoing call the person on the other end can't hear me, but i can hear them clearly. It works when i put the call on speaker, but i want to be able to call someone and not sharing the conversation with everyone around me.

So far i've done:

Soft reset

Hard reset

Nokia Software recovery tool

Does anyone have this issue?

Is there a fix for this or should i return it?

Regarding the bunch of people with no warranty for a replacement, and people like me, who purchased the phone in other market and have no Nokia service in the country, I will continue with my idea to reasign the speakerphone mic to other mic (we have 4 in the L930) and the campaign started yesterday, asking Gabe Aul by twitter for a software fix to reasign the speakerphone mic to other mic. This is my message:

@GabeAul Hi Gabe,is there a chance to get an answer from MS about the speakerphone issue in L930? at least a sw fix to reasign to other mic?

If anybody thinks it is a better way to get a fix for this, please contact Gabe Aul (he is the most active MS officer)

I'll tell here if he answers back. If he gets more messages like this maybe he could push for a software solution.

    thanks everybody!

    Hi,

    an UPDATE of my story:

through a few more day tests, I found out the 2nd mic is not completely dead:

if I turn on the speaker and shout very closely (very close) to the 2nd mic (suppose the place of upper most center of the main speaker for regular phone call), the other end can hear me (not very loud)

the 2nd founding is that, this might really be a hardware problem, because now when I plug-in a headset, not both ear will have sound some time, you need stir a bit to make both sound - make me suspect if the area nearby all had problem.

also, video recording do only have one channel, I am also a bit interested if Cortana using both ear to listen or just one, sometimes she recognized completely different thing I am talking - supposedly the  SW algorithm should not design like that.

I will wait a while for Windows10, hopefully they can re-assign the mic, also looks WP950 and XL is coming, really not so sure if I should follow the 2 anymore.

Is anything going to be done about this problem. I bought a flagship phone from a reputable provider. O2. I was hoping for a better service. Microsoft need to take charge of situations like this. They have enough money at their disposal. Why not just have an engineer and come up with a solution and fix it.

Has there been any official direct/indirect acknowledgment regarding this problem?

    Why not?

Can we amalgamate all the threads regarding this issue?

I am not a social network user, but can't this be taken to Twitter and facebook?

Are they hoping to fix this with Windows 10 mobile (which has no release date yet)?

Earlier I said a possible cause may have been physical damage to my phone, I have now realised by testing on my other 930 that they both have the problem. I am convinced it is software and not hardware. Because Cortana and "Hey, Cortana" work perfectly, even with loud music playing in the background. I don't use Skype and haven't tested that yet.

Update: So I may have posted on another thread. Just to add a bit of info. My phone is being sent for repair today for a smashed screen. I am paying from the via the Microsoft website £125 for this. I have mentioned that there is a Mic problem as well. We shall see what happens.

Update 2: I received my phone back about a week ago. Very quick service. I had it back on the 4th day if I remember correctly. They have repaired the screen and the microphone problem I have been testing it daily to ensure it isn't an app that is causing it to stop working. I have restored my backup, so all my apps are back on. And still the speaker phone mode is functioning. I have successfully used Cortana too. For reference the phone was given back to me with the latest update (8.1 update 1). So I am now convinced that it is indeed a hardware defect. My other phone will be sent, hopefully tomorrow and hopefully in warranty. I will come back with the results. If anyone has any questions please post here. I am receiving email updates of this thread.

Update 3: I have received an email from Anovo regarding my 2nd Lumia. They were unable to repair the Lumia 930 with the microphone/speaker problem and will be replacing it. I don't understand how they fixed the first one and not the second one. On another note I noticed there was a firmware update to the Lumia 930, so I went ahead, as recommended by the Microsoft troubleshooting guide, and updated the firmware on this second Lumia. It didn't solve the problem. It was very difficult to update. It kept failing. Numerous attempts were required. If anyone knows of a contact number then please pass it on, they have given me a non-reply email. I would love to speak to the engineer to fixed my first one.

Update 4: I have emailed Anovo directly. But I haven't been given any reference numbers for the repairs hopefully they are able to locate the cases using just my email address. I have queried why they are replacing the second phone. I am determined to find out what the problem is. They have repaired mine so unless they claim it was a fluke, they better have a satisfactory response.

Update 5: I should receive the replacement of the 2nd 930 today, I missed it yesterday they attempted delivery too early. More importantly Anovo have responded to my email. They've asked for both IMEI numbers. As soon as I received the phone today I will reply to them. I'll post back when I hear something.

Update 6: I have received the phone about a week ago . UPS lost it. I am in the process of finding out why they couldn't repair the second phone. They have emailed me saying according to their records it was repaired. Below is the email they have sent. I have replied, forwarding the initial email they sent saying they were unable to repair it and have replaced it. I am waiting for them to respond with they're contradicting correspondence.

    Good Morning Harry

    Thanks for your email.

In regards to the IMEI Number *******, it is showing on my system that this was repaired. We carried out quite a lot of internal work on the device. We have exchanged the mainboard on the phone and also components to do with an audio issue that our engineers found.

The device was then put through Quality Assessment Test and passed all off those and then was shipped back to you on the 19/08/2015.

If you require any further information then please let me know.

    Have a lovely day.

    Kind regards

Update 7: I have received a reply explaining why the second 930 was replaced and not repaired. Apparently it was repaired. All is explained in the pasted email below.

    Good Morning Harry

Sorry for the confusion caused. The email confirmation you received is an auto generated email and is sent to customers in relation to different types of replacements, for example both for mainboard swaps and complete exchanges. However, Alex was able to look at the job directly and supply you with a more in depth breakdown of the job. When a mainboard is replaced the device receives a new IMEI and therefore this is also classed as a replacement. For your reference, your new IMEI is ****************.

We hope this helps and apologies for the confusion on this.

    Regards

I guess that is the end of my story. The mainboard was and is required to be replaced. Any questions? I can continue to question them. Bearing in mind that they work for Microsoft and I assume many other manufacturers. They are not Microsoft or Nokia.
