The Windows 7 Windows Experience Index reports it cannot run due to an error of the OS, driver or component.  I am new to Windows 7, having used XP for a very long time.  I can't use chkdsk while using the computer and I looked at the system, the statuses of which said OK.  Help , please!

I have downloaded the Upgrade Advisor and post a link to the report.

You need to post the link here.

Gerry - I had run chkdsk 10 days or so ago and did it again today. Both times I got  "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."   (By the way, I just that I couldn't run it while typing my question, not that I couldn't.)

I will use Autoruns to delete the 4 entries.

I have downloaded the Upgrade Advisor and post a link to the report.

Thanks agaion for all your help.

    Ann

I found this report but it is not very informative.

    Log Name:      System

    Source:        Service Control Manager

    Date:          04/06/2014 20:48:06

    Event ID:      7036

    Level:         Information

    Description:

The Application Experience service entered the stopped state.

Earlier you did not respond to these questions / suggestions.

In your first post you wrote I can't use chkdsk.

It is most important that you can use chkdsk as many problems can arise if the file system on the disk is damaged.

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator from the drop down menu.. Type cd\ and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /r" without the quotes and hit ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer. Type exit, press the ENTER key and restart the computer.

Please run System File Checker and say if it cannot fix corrupted files:

Please let me know what happens when you attempt these two tasks?

Please use Autoruns to delete 4 entries where the words “File not found” appear. With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting, or you can right click an item and then delete it. Click the Everything tab and look for the rows highlighted in yellow.

Some your installed software may not be suitable for Windows 7. Please download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and upload a copy of the report to your OneDrive as a shared file:

    Hello Ann,

    Thank you for the update.

I would suggest you to  heck if Windows experience index is disabled or enabled using registry. Please follow these steps.

    a. Click Start, type regedit in start search box and press Enter.

    b. If prompted by UAC(User Account Control), click continue. Registry editor window will open.

    c. In registry editor, go to the following registry entry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

    d. To disable Windows experience index -

In the left pane, right click on "Windows" and click "New" and then "Key". Type "Control Panel" and press Enter.

    e. In the left pane, right click on "Control Panel" and click on "New" and then "Key".

    f. Type "Performance Control Panel" and press Enter.

Note: If "Performance Control Panel" is already there, then in the right pane of "Performance Control Panel", right click on a empty area and click on "New" and DWORD (32 bit) Value.

    g. Type "PerfcplEnabled" and press Enter.

To enable the Windows Experience Index -

    a. Right click "PerfcplEnabled" and click "Delete".

    b. Click "Yes" to confirm deletion.

    c. In the registry, go to the following registry entry:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Performance Control Panel

    d. In the right pane, repeat steps above if PerfcplEnabled is already there.

    e. Close registry editor.

Note: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you
