Just removed the 2670838 update, and it resolved the same issue I was having with video files. Same issue with dllhost.exe running until all RAM was used and then crashing unless I force closed it.
Another microsoft update to block. Well done on wrecking your own OS! Thanks for the tip William (and Simon).

yes it seems that the update You removed has a version of the x264 codec which should work for mp4 files but it seems to be incomplete.
Being as it is installed by MS it becomes the dominant codec and breaks any codec You have installed for mp4.
This is just what I have observed not a fact.
I am not a programer nor do I have a degree in computer science, but I have been working with a multitude of codecs to make My own video files since the DOS/Windows3.11 days and never had so much trouble installing the correct codec for the job.
It may be that most of the codecs that I use are open source and MS is blocking them being that they don't have MS certification.
