Touch screen not working for Asus laptop

i have the Asus - 11.6" Touch-Screen Laptop - 4GB Memory - 500GB Hard Drive - Steel Gray and for some reason my touch screen is not working anymore. It worked perfectly  the other day but today it is not. Does anybody know why and what i can do to fix this problem?

p.s. i already tried restarting my laptop and shutting it down.

I had this issue with my VivoBook S400CA touch screen and fixed it today doing the following:

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Go to Troubleshooting (you may have to search for it)
  3. Click Hardware and Sound
  4. In the Device section, click Hardware and Devices
  5. Have the wizard scan your computer for hardware issues.
  6. Let the computer fix whatever issues you had.

In my case there were 2 USB input devices that were disabled that the wizard enabled for me.  The touchscreen immediately started working.  Hope this helps someone.

UPDATE:

The problem used to come back periodically.  But since updating all of my drivers a while back, the problem has not resurfaced.

    So I have been struggling with a similar problem on my new asus laptop with windows 8.  My touch screen would work intermittently and I could not figure out why.  it kept giving me an error stating that the usb port was not getting enough power. (apparently the touch screen is plugged into the usb hub somehow).

    after lots of tinkering and reading forums like this and much prayer (Jesus often answers my prayers to help me figure out computer problems like this... I highly recommend it.  If you don't know him, get to know him.  He's awesome!)

    Anyway, this is the fix (i think... no problems so far).

    I went into the power settings by clicking on the little battery icon on the task bar at the bottom of my screen and the clicking on "more power options".  it opened up my power options and I chose "change plan settings".  from there I chose "change advanced power settings".

    I scrolled down to where it says "intel(R) graphics settings" and opened that up.  then I opened up "intel(R) graphics power plan".  everything was set to either maximum battery performance or maximum performance.  I changed it to "balanced".  no problems since then.

    I don't know for sure, but I think the screen wasnt getting enough power and didn't really know how to regulate itself.  now that I changed that, it seems to be working just fine.

    Thanks for your reply Gene, but I had already tried that and at least half a dozen other "remedies", and none of them worked.  In the end, I just couldn't understand why I should spend over $1,000 on a PC and new software, and then be expected to spend my own time trying to self-diagnose and "de-bug" it.  Just trying to understand and learn Windows 8 was more of a challenge than I expected, so I decided to leave all that to more patient people like yourself.  Clearly ASUS and MS are not concerned with the issues.

    As you can see, my new Mac is working just fine, and learning to use has been no more difficult than my  short experience trying to learn Windows 8 . . .  and considerably more rewarding.  If I find that I really need a touch screen (that works), I still have my I-Pad, which BTW, required no instruction or time to learn, has thousands more (useful) Apps, and as a bonus, integrates seamlessly with my new Mac.  And again, no de-bugging or instruction required.

    Hi,

    I have the same situation as Zazi8. I have tried all that Zazi has mentioned. The local Asus service center at Bangalore has also tried updating all drivers and such to no avail. They suspect a  sensor problem and have said they will revert in a weeks' time. Meanwhile, the touch screen continues to play truant.

    for some reason my touch screen is not working anymore.

    Sometimes you need to at least put the machine to sleep to restart its drivers when it wakes up.  Otherwise to get the effect of a full shutdown try doing a Restart.   You could also do a Shift-Restart  (or equivalently  shutdown.exe  /r  /o   )  but I don't think that would be necessary.
