Update:

Microsoft has DISABLED the weather and currency gadgets via a recent Security Update, due to concerns over the vulnerability associated with these gadgets running on your computer. You can read more about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662 . Adjusting your computer's settings and all these other "suggestions" people are making, will NOT work. The function has been REMOVED from the operating system. It has also been removed from the Windows 8 operating system. There are "theorists" that either agree that there is a security issue within the gadgets or Microsoft just does not want to support gadgets (usually third party software) and thus, has disabled them in Windows 7 and eliminated them in Windows 8.

Thanks to DaveNYC for the Info. Spread the word because many people are facing this problem just like you.

To all having this problem, the following worked for me:

After eading all kind of solutions, I changed the config.xml file according instructions and then I got connected but only to my own location (in my case Amsterdam). Tried everything else, no results, till I only give the exact zip code for the place I like to see the weather in the search menu and guess it worked, then I did the same on my computer in Greece (via teamviewer) and there it worked as well.

I hope it will help you as good as it did for me.

Ron

I've lost all trust in MS since they sabotoged Gadgets and now with Win10 one just doesn't yet know what they have planned for at least PC domination!  They are being ran by bean counters and not by anyone with Users desires or interests in mind!  I will wait until the 11th Month to upgrade if then, but I will make an image backup of win 7 in case I have to go back to WIn 7!  We all should know within a year what they are up to and what Win 10 is doing, so anyone can wait and see!  If MS goes after any pirated software or website, then they can't be trusted on any computer, but so far its probably just a rumor?

Beware of MS and Win 10!

    MitchZZ,

I refrained from saying anything since this is the gadgets thread and MS, but I agree, Windows 10- Redmond said they will even give it to illegal windows users so that everyone has Win10, but there have been many articles stating that they will now make sure no one pirates, which is fine for me, but still, and things will be monitored. Even Russia found some issues with the new hard drives being sold today-a hidden software that you cannot detect on your own.

And I just read an article that states everyone wanting to actually view your bank account and then tailor ads for what they KNOW you buy and for your budget, based on your balance!  Redmond issues most of those articles. They even talked about a virus for MAC users that was going to be presented on Aug 26th. Times are definitely changing and I am keeping Win 7 until I cannot use it anymore. My 2nd laptop, I all ready replaced XP with Linux. That will happen to this one too when it becomes 100% necessary. I am also sick of people defending MS that you cannot use Win XP or 95, when I know people are still using them.

Privacy is continually being threatened and violated. And since I am not a programmer, MS can make things unsafe or seem unsafe, just to force you to go in the direction they want to go-it's not about what the customer wants-it's about what the big dogs want and we can do obey or jump off the boat (pc).

To have the days of 3.1 and 95b back when everything about computers was fun. I like Win 7 Ultimate a lot but this is the last road to true freedom - the rest will be a fight. They are all ready making it difficult to do things on Linux and so on. I cannot watch xfinity online all of a sudden and tons complaining about it. Adobe Flash has quit supporting Linux users all of a sudden...it's about world domination in the MS Computer World.

UPDATE: Took forever, but I found the Fix-it program and then did a restore gadgets and now I got everything back. Granted currency still doesn't work, but I can start from scratch again! And I am still going to start learning script and making my own. I am even more motivated now :-)))

    THANKS!!!!

Just restore Gadgets (a MS Fix-It Program) and install the revised Weather gadget program "weather-win7gadgets-com.gadget" updated 1 May 2015 and everything will be fine!  My purpose here is just to call MS out for disabling it in the first place for no valid reason!  They still refuse to listen to their own Win7 Users, but thats what they do and somehow get away with it!!  Don't trust WIn 10 as they have some kind of wicked plan to charge you more or spy on you, who knows!
