Weather gadget not working- Cannot connect to service

It would be nice if someone could post or re-post what we have to do in DETAIL (EXACTLY where to locate the file(s), what exactly to do, and so on, so we can do it. But ONLY if it actually fixes the problem and even after a year you are still using your currency and weather gadget originally installed into Windows in the first place...without having to re-do things all the time.

and insert it into your address bar. Download the archive

Config2021.xml

and insert the extracted file in the "Cache" folder. Give the file 1-2 minutes to take effect to restore the gadget's function. For location search, use a zip-code. The functionality of the gadget will still be limited in time, but determined to last until early 2021.

Yeah, I know you are not confronting me, but at the same time, I think some believe that if they didn't see it, it didn't exist. But, the only reason I brought up the announcement is because I saw at least one more person mention this and it's true-I verify that I indeed saw the same message. It specifically stated they disabled Weather and Currency Gadgets due to vulnerabilities, in a recent update and that the rest of the gadgets should continue to work. BUT they never said WHICH (Update kb....) so that's why I was on a hunt to find out how to get them working again.

I also believe that's why there aren't thousands of people posting and flooding this thread-their gadgets quit, they did a search and they saw the same announcement and just shrugged their shoulders and gave up because they are typical consumers who know very little about computers at all. I am not an expert, but I can do a lot more than anyone I personally know and tend to be the one they come to for me to fix their computer issues. If I don't know how to do it, I tell them they will have to go to the local shop. But there's a lot of things I can do very well...just because I try to research and learn-just as with this issue.

After having to reinstall Windows, due to an issue of installing my Adobe software, the gadgets were working again, but of course doing Windows updates, it  made Windows Weather and Currency gadgets quit working again.  I have no reason to lie about this; I am supposed to be doing something else right now, but decided that since you reached out to me, I would like to communicate back.

And yeah, I do not know about changing dates on files, creating files to work with the OS and so on. I never really learned anything about programming. And it doesn't help when we say there is no file and then they say, yeah that's a location issue...okkkk....we know that much...so now what? lol That is a dead end. This isn't the techie site, that's called Technet or MSDN or whatever, so I was truly hoping for a nice tutorial here, to get it working again, for those of us who want to learn, but in layman's terms.  Had I been able to figure this out on my own, I would be willing to make a detailed tutorial...no luck yet.

And sure, I have deleted temp files from time to time because all that stuff builds up after a while and it just helps to keep browsers and such work better.

The only reference I can now find to the entire gadget issue is the techie announcement that came across as a "warning or advisory: and how to disable the entire sidebar and gadgets.

See, that's the problem, the day mine went out, a lot of people experienced this too, as I saw tons of people posting at the same time. I never knew it would be a day I would have to record in my diary and print and save in my safe deposit box to prove that MS did indeed do this, say this after they did it and that many of us were affected the same day.

But I am going to just try the other gadgets on like Windows7gadgets.com, gadgetsdownload.com or addgadgets.com

If I could learn the idea of creating the code for gadgets, I would just like to make my own! :-)))

Just connect to this site : http://gallery-live.com/sidebar-gadgets/MSN%20Weather%202.0

Download what you need, install and type "gadget" w/o quote in a command line, you will see a gadget window with the same sun icon but with MSN on it, click on and your weather gadget should be shown on the desktop.
