Weather gadget not working- Cannot connect to service

What I find strange about this, is that these comments and suggestions all date back to 2013.

BTW, I have every update MS has issued, so that is not causing the problem.

I cannot thank you enough for this confirmation. The update hypothesis makes no sense in any respect.

1. The cause for the weather gadget failure has been identified as the removal of an online configuration file. If you've been given a sufficient explanation, why try to find a second one?
2. The cause for the current issue is the same as for its moderate March 2013 predecessor. Has there been an update in March 2013 to take a temporary, restricted effect of about 3 days - to return in 2015 with a permanent, universal impact?
3. While one "update" disables the gadget with a tolerance of half a year and more, the other one disables the location search for all users simultaneously.
4. Nobody in the world up to this day has been able to identify the malicious "update" - and nobody will.
5. The "update" is able to manipulate config.xml every few days even if you didn't install any at the time - or didn't install any ever.
6. The "update" does maliciously keep config.xml from being generated on every fresh install of Windows 7.
7. The "update" doesn't take effect at the time it's installed (patch day). It waits for days or weeks to surprisingly start going after nothing but a legitimate part of the Windows installation.
8. The "update" does distinguish between user accounts, if there are several present. They get affected by the "update" at random.
9. The "update" is able to distinguish between a config.xml refreshed conventionally and one with date modified set to the future. While nothing will be altered on the conventional one, meaning it's going to expire soon, the future one will be mysteriously set back to present to drive you crazy. The "update's" only aim is to counteract your attempts of making the gadget work again.
10. The "update" even strikes if you stop using Windows Update now, have stopped using it half a year ago, have never used it at all or uninstall all updates in question since January.

If you know it was an Update causing this Problem, then why don't you tell everyone what or which Update you are talking about???   Why are you being so secretive and obtuse about the Update as you seem to be protecting MS or keeping the info to yourself??  Just Post the number of the Update you are talking about and anyone can easily remove it and problem solved!?  The way you describe it it could be a virus or malware that caused or is still causing the problem?   Are you even being serious??

Could you share with me how you fixed it for yourself? I have been following this thread for a while now and I also could not find the specific files needed to be changed. And I sure don't know which file to actually change.

I also don't understand why others keep saying "hypothesis" of the update and so on, when it was written in black and white on Microsoft's website, that MS updates were installed to shut the gadgets down on weather and currency because they were too vulnerable.

I also don't understand why people started arguing over this recently.

And I don't understand how people can say finding the specific files is another issue entirely, when they claim it's that/those files we need to change!

For me, it would make more sense to ignore the user account and go to the main computer account where the gadget stuff is also stored so that it would affect the entire program.  But I have to agree with Volume Z that even if you guys have been smart enough to fix the problem, it will get knocked out again (eventually) anyway.

It would be nice if someone could post or re-post what we have to do in DETAIL (EXACTLY where to locate the file(s), what exactly to do, and so on, so we can do it. But ONLY if it actually fixes the problem and even after a year you are still using your currency and weather gadget originally installed into Windows in the first place...without having to re-do things all the time.

Needless to say, I have yet to see a solution on here. Anders says some things, sends us to another link and none of it makes sense since the files discussed aren't there and some of us don't have the luxury of getting files from another computer and so on. And even if we did, where to place the file exactly.

I have to agree that most of you are being obtuse, argumentative, and even arrogant, rather than actually being helpful to those of us who would like to fix it and actually learn from it.

DerSchuhmacher ,   You are correct on some things as there seems to be some competition on here between some Posters about how to fix the MS caused Gadget Problem for Win7/8 and Vista!  However, in the last 10 pages of replys there have been very detailed instructions on how to get around MS' intentions to disable and not support Gadgets in these OSs now or in the future!  Of course, you have to have a basic understanding of OSs and know how to change file dates and how to locate the specific files in question "config.xml and configW7.xml" that should be there unless you have deleted your IE  Temporary files!  I haven't seen the MS posted statement "MS updates were installed to shut the gadgets down on weather and currency because they were too vulnerable" you claim exists and was posted, but I believe it is true even though some posters here defend MS and say no update caused this problem?  Its obvious MS had to have done something besides stoping their website gadget update site!  Please Post the location or source for their statement if you have it or can find it again??  Some Posters here just have to have proof for the obvious! Right VZ?
