I had this problem and think I have found the cure. Open up the Nvidia Control Panel (probably bottom right tasks bar) left hand side of control panel click on Phys configurations, click on automatic and change to GForce (if this is what your computer runs) click apply - hopefully this may cure your problems. TDR is the Timeout, Detection, and Recoverycomponent in Windows. **** What happens is the Graphics Display driver for the installed graphics card stops responding. When this happens, windows will stop and restart the driver to fix the problem.
The most common reason for this issue is that the graphics device is being overloaded or used beyond its capabilities.
This happens most often when playing graphic intensive games, but can happen with any process that uses a large amount of graphic resources, such as when editing or creating videos.
Some things you can do to avoid these problems:
a. Make sure you are using the latest graphics device driver.
b. Manage your time working with programs that are graphic intensive, exit any other programs that might also use a large amount of resources.
I would suggest you to download and Install the latest graphic card drivers from the manufacturer’s website and check.
You can install Windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 8 compatible drivers.
Follow these steps:
a) Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.
b) Type compatibility in the search box and then press enter.
c) Click “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” option from the list appeared in the left side.
d) Select the drivers and install.

pressing "Windows+ W' key on computer brings up Windows Ink Workspace but no search box. I typed compatibility in the task bar search box and did not find an option for “Run programs made for previous versions of Windows” Ran the compatibility trouble shooter anyway and it just gave me a long list of programs to select from that are causing problem. BUT I do not know what is causing the video tdr failure!
Uninstalling my graphics card and then restarting which allows windows to reinstall it seemed to work for me to resolve this issue.
What about those of us, and there seem to be thousands, where there is no more recent video driver. My ATI Radeon 4800 card is no longer supported by AMD. There is no driver from them. In one simple action, Microsoft has made my otherwise fine desktop obsolete. I get the Blue Screen Video TDR Failure every time I use it. From the internet, it appears there are multiple thousands of people with the same issue with the KB4038788 update. They do not all use the same video card. Come on, Microsoft, you created this issue, now please fix it.
