windows 8 stuck in restart loop 'your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you'

My laptop was working fine last night, however I left it on and unplugged and it died. This morning I am getting an endless loop of 'Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you' 

the message pops up for one second and then the VAIO logo reappears before the blue screen pops back for a second. This just goes on forever with no additional info. I can see an additional line appear on the blue screen every time just as it turns off so it is unreadable.

Help please?

more info: The percentage bar never goes past 0% It just pops up and immediately goes back to the VAIO screen.

Hi Wesley,

This issue could be due to system files corruption, I would suggest you to try performing automatic repair using Windows 8 disc from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and check if it helps.

To perform Automatic repair on Windows 8 computer follow these steps:

a.     Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.

b.     Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

c.     Once the Windows Setup window appears, follow these steps:

d.     Click next and select Repair your computer.

e.     You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.

f.      You may choose Automatic Repair from Advanced boot option.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue.

    Hi, I'm having the same problem as Wesley but I am unable to boot using a disk or a drive because it isn't recognized, I also cannot use my keyboard to select certain things like F8 or F11 because again, my PC doesn't recognize it.

    Ok I've had a problem I was upgrading for win 7 to 8 at that moment it had a black screen with a blue win 8 logo and text saying getting ready and then I had a power cut now it just does a restart after an error message saying your pc encounted an error and needs to restart and I'm on a tower or computer but I don't know hat to do can any one help ?

    Ok how I got around this in case it's useful to anyone. 

    Unless you have the following pre-requisites, then don't read any further..!

    Another PC with the correct SATA connection available 

    Knowing how to take ownership of a file if necessary

    I removed the drive from the faulty PC and connected it to another PC I have. I coped all my data off from the Faulty PC drive onto my working PC. I then renamed hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys (had to take ownership of the files).

    Then I did a scan of the faulty disk (properties/tools/check)

    It found a few file errors that were fixed,

    I put the drive back in the faulty pc and rebooted - all was well. 

    No re-install and no loss of files.

    It may not be the cause of your issues or a fix that will work for you necessarily - but it worked for me where the other posts here did not and I did not want to have to reinstall everything and lose personal files that were not backed up.
